Alongside it, there are two other netted, climbing play structures, offering a quiet, shaded spot along the Kallang River for kids to enjoy being outside.
Bishan Street 13 Playground: Singapore’s First Wallhola Vertical Playground
The Wallhola vertical playground at Blk 158 Bishan Street 13 Playground has a black frame with an orange ribbon on the inside. It is found in the shaded area between the block of flats and the Kallang River.
This particular Wallhola playground is significant as it was the first one in Singapore to be installed in Singapore, introducing the concept of a vertical playground occupying a small footprint. It was built in 2016 by playground company PlayPoint.

On the inside of the vertical playground, there is a netted section for kids to play. They can navigate their way around the narrow orange strip that runs through the inside of the steel frame.
The outside of the vertical playground also offers fun play opportunities; there are a variety handholds which lead to entry ports on the levels above.
Since its introduction, many more Wallhola play structures have been introduced around Singapore. They vertical playgrounds provide three storeys of vertical play space for kids between the ages of 5 to 12 years old.
Another one in Bishan can be found at Junction 8.
Other Climbing Net Structures at Bishan Street 13
Beside the vertical playground, the shady, neighbourhood patch also has two other climbing structures for kids to enjoy. These climbing structures at the Bishan Street 13 playground have also been around for as long as the Wallhola.
The first is a net tunnel. Semi-circular metal rings are interconnected with a set of cargo nets to form a tunnel.
The entrances at either end of the play tunnel are kid sized – so adults will have to stoop to get inside. However, kids can easily run inside and through the tunnel to play, or even climb on this piece of netted play equipment.
Also close by is a play tower which kids can climb. There are two levels to this red tower, which can be reached through the use of the climbing nets on the inside. There are also cargo nets that lead upwards into the tower.
At the top level of the play tower, there is access to a metal tube slide that kids can use to make their way back down again.
What’s nice about this Bishan Street 13 play area is the shade that is provided by the mature trees. Not only do the leafy green trees provide shelter from the sun above but it seems to have also kept the playground equipment from wearing down too much.
