As we go about our festive shopping and celebrations, don’t forget that there are many people here and around the world who aren’t so fortunate and for whom every day is a struggle.
So this Christmas, bring some joy and cheer to the underprivileged and help to improve lives by donating to charitable organisations or causes. Here are some places where you can contribute to make it a truly meaningful season of giving.
Giving Back This Season
This national online platform is where you can donate, volunteer or fundraise for any of more than 600 local non-profits. You can select the causes close to your heart, or give to charities so they can carry out their good works.
Salvation Army Christmas Kettling
Every dollar raised from this annual campaign goes towards the needy and the vulnerable in our community. You can find the iconic red kettle pots at various major malls around Singapore, such as AMK Hub, Suntec City and Plaza Singapura. There’s even a cashless option where all you can donate online or through PayNow by scanning a QR code.
All around the world, there are children suffering because of war, famine or the fall-out of COVID-19. Your donations here may well be life-saving for them.
The Boys’ Brigade Share-A-Gift
A community service project that’s been running annually since 1988, this sees the collection and distribution of grocery items and gifts to the needy. Donating is easy and is done via the BB’s official campaign website, where a click of the button will bring you to NTUC FairPrice’s online store.
Giant X UOB Christmas Wishing Tree
In the spirit of Christmas, Giant has partnered with UOB Cards to launch a meaningful initiative to help raise money for local charity, Children’s Wishing Well, which supports low-income families across Singapore. Presenting the tallest supermarket Christmas Wishing Tree, Giant and UOB are inviting customers and the general public to make a wish and for every wish submitted, Giant and UOB will donate $2 to the charity – simply scan the QR at the Wishing Tree at Giant Tampines Hypermarket, or through the microsite here.
Gift a fun experience to underprivileged kids, families and migrant workers when you donate your SingapoRediscovers Vouchers. The tickets or redemptions will be automatically sent to Klook’s charity partners and beneficiaries who will organise the visits.
Blessings In A Bag
This youth-targeted community organisation aims to raise $40,000 by 31 December 2021. The funds will go towards providing curated experiences and excursions for 50 children and youths from underprivileged families every month in 2022, enabling them to explore parts of Singapore and take part in activities they otherwise wouldn’t have access to.
Habitat for Humanity Singapore
Help provide vulnerable seniors and low-income families with a decent, secure living environment when you donate to this international non-profit organisation. Money raised will go towards rehabilitating their homes.
The Art Faculty
Make your Christmas gifting count for more when you purchase items from this social enterprise run by Autism Resource Centre (Singapore). Featuring well-made, functional gifts with designs by talented artists on the spectrum, your shopping will enable them to earn an income.
Her Rise Above
Support local women who are juggling home-based businesses with health or caregiving issues and help to increase their household income by purchasing sweet treats, bakes, meals and handmade gifts from them.
