Looking for things to do this weekend? It is the last weekend of the Singapore Heritage Fest 2015, but not too late to savour its programmes. Two new theatre performances also start their run, an experiential carnival in town and music for picnic-lovers in the park.

It’s the final weekend of the Da Vinci: Shaping The Future exhibition. ArtScience Museum is offering free entry to the exhibition this weekend with the last admission at 6 pm. Based on five themes, Mathematics, Natural Science, Architecture, Technology and Music, the exhibition explores the diverse talents of Leonardo da Vinci.
2. Free Movie Screening: The Spiderwick Chronicles
16 May, 4 pm to 6 pm
Queenstown Library
Go on a movie adventure with twin brothers Jared and Simon Grace, along with their sister Mallory when they find themselves pulled into the alternate world full of fairies and other creatures upon moving into the run-down Spiderwick Estate. No registration is required.
3. George and the Music Box
14 May to 16 May, starts at 8 pm
Esplanade Recital studio
George’s mom tucks him into bed and tries to put him to sleep with stories from the old family fables book. However, each time she tries, George’s favourite toys come to life and make each story an adventurous journey into the kingdom of fantasy. This performance at the Esplanade Recital Studio is presented by Bellepoque. Suitable for those aged 6 years old and above.
4. Puppet Storytelling
16 May, 3 pm to 4 pm
Bishan Public Library
Be entertained by the children from Sunny Bunny Montessori as they tell you stories through puppetry. The stories will be told in English and Chinese. This programme is suitable for all ages and no registration is required.
5. BeKIDS Experiential Learning Expedition 2015
16 and 17 May, 10 am to 6 pm
Playspace @ Scape, Level 1
Let your young one take part in hands-on activities at Scape this weekend. There will be games, entertainment and finger food spread over 20 tents that offer activities ranging from Aikido classes, a video competition, crafting of clay bowl and crawling through “sensory integration tents”. Embark on the “ultimate Experiential Learning Expedition for children”! Free admission.
6. Jiving Through the Ages
15 May and 16 May, 7 pm to 10.30 pm
Cathay
It’s yesterday once more at the Cathay with a showcase of local music talents who are bringing back the hits from the 60s and 70s. Come with your friends and family to this eclectic weekend of local music talents, and chill out as Singaporeans once did outside Cathay.
7. Kampong Spirit, Kampong Fun Travelling Exhibition
8 May to 17 May
Westgate
Get re-acquainted with village life and the kampong spirit at this travelling exhibition. Visitors get to experience playing traditional games too! Free admission.
8. From the Belly of the Carp
15 May to 19 May
Singapore River
Experience the Singapore River like never before. When the sun goes down, come out to meet the traders and merchants who made a living along the river. Strike up a conversation with them and indulge in cultural performances from the diverse communities who lived along the river. This night programme is part of the Singapore Heritage Fest 2015.
9. Roald Dahl’s The BFG
16 May to 31 May
Ulu Pandan CC Theatrette, 5th Floor, Ulu Pandan Community Club
Roald Dahl’s classic, The BFG, comes to the stage with the Players Theatre. Sophie, the little orphan, befriends the BFG, sparking off an unlikely partnership to save the world.
10. Chopin by the Lake
17 May, 6.30 pm to 7.30 pm
Singapore Botanic Gardens: Shaw Foundation Symphony Stage
Picnic in the park while being serenaded by Polish piano virtuoso, Dr Krystian Tkaczeweski. Bathe in the glorious sound of music. Presented by the Embassy of Poland.
11. Artist Night Out: Memories
16 May and 17 May, Starting from 12 pm
Dhoby Ghaut Green (Outside Dhoby Ghaut MRT)
A gathering of talented artists, this event includes performances, poetry recitals, workshops, interactive installations and an art market. Starts from 12 pm on both Saturday and Sunday, and runs till 10 pm on Saturday and 6 pm on Sunday.
12. Traditional Trades Carnival
15 to 17 May, 11 am to 9 pm
Campbell Lane
Revisit the past at the Traditional Trades Carnival organised by the Indian Heritage Centre. Come meet a parrot astrologer, buy some fresh curd and milk from the milk seller and see how a traditional pattar pierces ears. There will be traditional snack like kachang puteh, ice-cream and ice-balls too.
