For a simple but nourishing, comforting meal, many of us will think of Soup Restaurant. Over more than thirty years, many a family gathering have happened at one of Soup Restaurant’s now twelve outlets across Singapore. With prices starting from $59++ for two pax to dine in, Soup Restaurant has curated very wallet friendly Parents’ Day sets for us to enjoy their nourishing soups, nostalgic favourites and altogether delicious dishes with our small or large families.
Soup Restaurant recently showcased their celebration set and we had a chance to feast on old and new favourites.

Parents’ Day Set Menu Review
We started off with the Double-boiled Cordyceps Flower with Pork Loin Soup. The Cordyceps Flower is well known as part of traditional Chinese medicine for its effects on nourishing the kidney and lungs as well as stamina and endurance.
What’s even better is it tastes great and the warm, comforting liquid going into your digestive tract warms it up and readies it for the rest of the meal.
Next was the iconic Samsui Ginger Chicken, which was steamed to tender perfection. The light touch of the seasoning allows you to taste the natural flavour of the chicken that you may opt to wrap in lettuce leaves and topped with as much or as little of their famous ginger sauce as you like.
My wife is always amazed at the copious amounts of it I consume for someone who dislikes ginger usually! The Samsui Ginger Chicken is iconic and classic for good reasons.
One of the Parents’ Day exclusive dishes, Sweet Pea with Fresh Waisan and Mushrooms was a simple, tasty and thoughtful addition to the set. Chinese yam, Waisan or Huai Shan is a staple in Traditional Chinese Medicine and modern research is also identifying beneficial and therapeutic compounds in it that may support blood sugar control and gastrointestinal function.
Favourites of the Parents’ Day Set Menu at Soap Restaurant
Be careful of the Yam & Chinese Sausage Steamed Rice with Sakura Prawns. Yam rice is a favourite of Singaporeans, and we eat it in multiple combinations. Topped with premium Chinese sausage and top-grade Japanese Sakura prawns, the fluffy, fragrant and flavourful rice was irresistible.
I added some of their Samsui XO Sauce and couldn’t help but have multiple helpings of the rice!
Another standout, and also an exclusive dish for the Parents’ Day period, was the Abalone Seafood Pot.
The restaurant called it “A sizzling medley of abalone, sea cucumber, dried scallops, octopus, and fish maw, infused with wok hei for deep, rich flavours.” I call it a pot with so many things I like in a rich, flavourful sauce.
Each ingredient is cooked just right and assembled into a decadent, beautiful and savoury pot that is like a Pen Cai (except it’s not Chinese New Year).
I was looking forward to this dish and it did not disappoint – the Yuzu Honey Pork Chop. The pork chop was tender, juicy and moist yet had a satisfying crust – no small amount of skill was required!
I wish the yuzu was more prominent but the sauce was definitely one of the better ones I’ve had on a sweet and sour pork chop-type dish.
Towards the end of the meal, we were presented with these very pretty Handmade Mini Longevity Buns that tasted significantly better than those frozen mass produced ones that some restaurants give.
We love free things – Especially if it’s Bird’s Nest
Finally, to end the meal, there was the “FREE” Double-boiled Bird’s Nest with Snow Pear that comes with the Celebration set.
Again, this drove home the message that Soup Restaurant wanted to provide our families with an all round nourishing and delicious meal.
Edible bird’s nest has always been prized for supposed health benefits and nutritional value. Generous amounts of Bird’s Nest, sweetened with rock sugar, combined with refreshing and fruity snow pear makes for a very satisfying close to the meal.
