With low tables and cushy seats, along with a view that looks out to the hotel’s swimming pool, L’Espresso invites guests to slow down and relax.
Afternoon Tea Buffet Spread at the L’Espresso, Goodwood Park Hotel
There are both sweet and savoury food options available as part of the afternoon tea buffet at L’Espresso.
When we visited, there was an enticing selection of sandwiches available as part of the buffet spread.
These included finger sandwiches with fillings such as Cucumber and Cream Cheese, and Gammon Ham and Cheddar Cheese. Our personal favourite was a toss up between the Egg Salad and Swiss Bacon finger sandwiches, and the Corned Beef, Sauerkraut and Mustard sandwiches.
Other light options included open-faced sandwiches with fillings like Duck Rillette and Raisin Chutney and Herb and Garlic Cheese with Cranberry Compote. These seemed more like tartlets to us but were delicious.
Even more options included mini croissants with fillings like Parma Ham, Comichon & Brie Cheese.
There was definitely no shortage of sandwich-style options at the Goodwood Park Hotel afternoon tea.
Cheeses and Cold Cuts
For those who love cold cuts, there was a selection of cheeses on the cheese board.
Cold cuts as well as smoked salmon was also available.
It was easy to fill the plate with light bites to whet the appetite.
Savoury Selection
However, it is not just light bites that are available at the L’Espresso buffet line.
We were happy to find more savoury selections to fill out plates with. Besides quiches and pizza slices, there was also battered fish fillets, truffle wedges and more.
Our personal favourite from the savoury items available was the Slow Roasted Beef Tenderloin at the Carving Station.
The selection satisfied our appetites even though we had skipped lunch for the high tea.
Sweets
Those who have a sweet tooth will not be disappointed either.
There was such as wide range of sweets and cakes like financiers and eclairs stacked up and available at L’Espresso.
These were complemented with chocolates truffles and there are fruits as well for those who may wish feel that they are eating healthier.
Chef’s Specials
We were also pleasantly surprised to find there were chef specials that were not listed on the menu. Their availability was signalled by the ringing of a bell.
In our case, the chef’s specials included Cheesy Seafood Arancini with Herb Aioli and Baked Pork & Pumpkin Filo Pie.
Traditional English Scones
No afternoon high tea would be complete without traditional English scones.
You will find plenty of options here. In addition to plain scones, there are also other flavours available. Beside raisin scones, which are not that unusual, there were also apricot, coffee and pistachio scones. The most enticing was the Maple Pecan scones.
Here is one tip: don’t miss out on the creme brulee that is hidden amongst the smorgasbord of scones.
Ice Cream
With all the food available, we almost missed out on the ice cream machine at the end of the buffet.
Who can pass up on the opportunity to enjoy some ice cream.
Beverages
Our high tea experience came with choices of coffees and teas.
There is also iced and hot chocolate available as well.
You can pick up some iced fruit tea close to the ice cream machine as well.
L’Espresso Goodwood Park Afternoon High Tea Review
Goodwood Park Hotel has a reputation for being a place where you an enjoy a relaxing afternoon tea. With its spread of food items as well as the charm of the historic building, we can understand why.
And since we visited on a Monday afternoon, we could take our time as there was only one sitting (there are two sittings on the weekends). As a result, we certainly enjoyed our experience with afternoon high tea at Goodwood Park Hotel.
