The SAFRA Punggol Waterway Challenge is making a comeback on 28 April 2018, Saturday. Families looking for an exciting family-bonding activity can participate in the multi-disciplinary race featuring running, cycling and kayaking elements.

Different categories are available for parent-and-child pairs and adult pairs to take part – the Doubles Challenge for adults 15 years and above, and the Families for Life Challenge for parent-and-child pairs where the child has to be seven years old and above.

Obstacle stations at the SAFRA Punggol Waterway ChallengeAlong the way, participants will also get to tackle fun obstacle challenges, including activities such as buddy skipping, trampoline photo jumps and more.

Together, these activities make for a memorable day of fun and challenge.

Exciting Outdoor Fun

The inaugural edition of the SAFRA Punggol Waterway Challenge was held in 2016 to celebrate the opening of the new club. Among the 400 participants, more than 120 parent-and-child pairs took on a course around the scenic Punggol Waterway Park and Coney Island Park.

Cycling stage of the SAFRA Punggol Waterway ChallengeRiding on the success of the first race, this year’s edition of the SAFRA Punggol Waterway Challenge will thus feature new race routes and challenge stations for participants to enjoy and bond.

Rise Up to the Challenge

Parent-child bonding, SAFRA Punggol Waterway Challenge 2018Parents with children between seven and 10 years old can join in the AceKids Challenge. At around 7 km long, the course will include a cycling route, running course and paddle in a double kayak. Teams will need to comprise one parent and one child racing together.

Parents with slightly older children can participate in the ChampKids Challenge. This category is for children between 11 and 14 years old and their parents. Teams in the ChampKids Challenge will need to complete a total route distance of around 10 km.

Young adults who are 15 years old and above can also participate in the Doubles Challenge.

SAFRA Punggol Waterway Challenge 2018Kayaks will be provided as part of the SAFRA Punggol Waterway Challenge 2018, but participants will have to bring their own mountain bike or rent one onsite from Bikes at Waterway at SAFRA Punggol.

Cash Prizes To Be Won

Crossing the finish line at the SAFRA Punggol Waterway ChallengeAll participants will receive a finisher’s medal.

The top three teams in the AceKids and ChampKids categories will receive cash prizes from $100 to $400 each.

For the record, the AceKids and ChampKids champion teams in 2016 both powered home in under 1.5 hours. But no pressure!

How to Participate

The SAFRA Punggol Waterway Challenge 2018 is open to all members of the public and SAFRA members can enjoy discounted rates. Participants need to be generally fit and are encouraged to conduct a fitness self-assessment using the Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire (PAR-Q) prior to the race.

Registration for the SAFRA Punggol Waterway Challenge 2018 can be done online or at any Customer Service Counters at SAFRA clubs from 9 am to 9 pm. Registration closes on 31 March 2018 and spaces are limited.

On event day, race marshals will be on hand – both on land and in the water – to ensure safety throughout the event.

Family Carnival

Supporters can enjoy a family carnivalFamily members are welcomed to join in the fun to cheer for your loved ones who are participating too.

There will also be a carnival, with free flow of food as well as a host of activities including a free hand spa, games and photo booth at the event.

The SAFRA Punggol Waterway Challenge 2018 offers a unique parent-child experience and a chance to get outdoors for a great bonding time over some healthy fun. Sounds like a perfect little day out in our books!

Doubles Challenge (both adults aged 15 years and above):
$80 (SAFRA members)/$100 (public) per pair

AceKids Challenge (1 parent and 1 child aged 7 to 10 years old):
$40 (SAFRA members)/$50 (public) per pair

ChampKids Challenge (1 parent and 1 child aged 11 to 14 years old):
$40 (SAFRA members)/$50 (public) per pair

Slots for each race category are limited. Registration closes on 31 Mar 2018.

Registered participants will each receive a race pack containing event information, an event race T-shirt and sponsored items including a face towel, cap and shaker bottle.
