Pesta Ubin 2021 is back! It’s yet another wonderful opportunity for families and friends to participate in heartfelt, organic and community-led activities that are centred around the iconic island of Pulau Ubin.

This kampung-style “open house” is the highlight of each year of ‘Celebrating Ubin’, which is made possible by the Friends of Ubin Network. Pronounced ‘Pays-ta’, Pesta is Malay for festivals or parties and often describes festivities that bring a community together, such as a cultural celebration. Here are some activities to look out for.

What kind of wildlife are we able to spot around Singapore and Pulau Ubin? How about Sharks’ eggs, Horseshoe Crabs’ moults or dried seahorse specimens? Join the Young Nautilus on this virtual learning exhibition session, to observe various animals specimen and learn more about our local marine life.

Kampung Games

Go back to the good old days with UCares Volunteers at the Free Kampung Games booth on 4 Sept 2021! Have fun learning traditional Kampung games such as Chapteh, 5 Stones, zero point, hopscotch and a newly added Hula Hoop game! Take a break from electronics and have some offline fun!

Theatre at Ubin: From Then to Now

What Makes A Community? A look at Pulau Ubin’s cultural heritage through photo-voice

Did you know there were theatre practitioners training at Ubin quarry back in the 1990s? Join an interesting talk by Sourcing Within about theatre and performer training on Ubin in the 90s, and see how the search for performer training continues with current practitioners through a performative presentation. There will also be a short Q&A at the end of the session.

Pesta Ubin x Latip Hussain: Pottery Demonstration & Ubin Artworks

Join artist Latip Hussain as he raises awareness among visitors about Pulau Ubin with the creative uses of clay through pottery demonstration and artwork display. Latip’s wife is a native of Pulau Ubin, thus making Pulau Ubin one of the main sources of Latip’s work.

The Singapore Heritage Society is organising activities to connect current and former residents, assist residents in the repair of buildings, document and research intangible and built heritage, as well as public education. They hope to revitalise the living heritage of Pulau Ubin through the kampung community, and their homes.
