Sailors would often talk of sea serpents and leviathans and these tales have also fed the imaginations of French writers such as Victor Hugo and Jules Verne.

This section of the exhibition takes a closer look at some of the likely creatures that spawned these legends, drawing visitors into the rest of the exhibition.

The last section of the exhibition provides a look at the challenges that the ocean is facing today. It also challenges visitors to think about what can be done to combat marine pollution.

Ocean: Diving into the Unknown isn’t an especially large exhibition but it does provide a fair bit of information and celebrates the beauty of the ocean while highlighting its importance to the planet.

You can visit the free exhibition at Alliance Française on your own or join a guided tour. There is a kids and families tour available

Storytelling Sessions, Workshops and More

Complementing the exhibition, there are various other activities being held during the exhibition duration. These include storytelling sessions in June, July and August as well as workshops inspired by the exhibition. There are film screenings and holiday camps too.
