Indoor Kid-friendly Activities In Batam: Weatherproof Fun In Malls

City life in Batam used to feel a little lacklustre when it came to kids’ activities. After all, my last visit was eight years ago, when indoor playgrounds weren’t quite the trend yet.

Somewhere along the way, Batam quietly transformed into a much more family-friendly destination, one that I wouldn’t hesitate to revisit with my kids. With the heat and unpredictable weather forcing us to scrap our outdoor plans, I went on a hunt for indoor alternatives and managed to pack 5 fun indoor activities into our 2D1N trip.

Note: In Batam, the ground floor is typically referred to as G, with numbering continuing upward from there. Therefore, Level 1 in this guide refers to what would commonly be considered the second floor.

The highlight of our trip has to be this massive indoor playground packed with attractions that older kids will genuinely enjoy. Beyond the usual slides, there are high element obstacle courses, climbing walls, an immersive “Floor is Lava” LED game zone, a rodeo ride and even a flying Sky Rider!

For those who prefer less physically demanding activities, there are plenty of options too, such as archery, basketball challenges, pose matching games, seated soccer, and Angry Birds themed target shooting. Just as fun, with a little less sweating involved.

What impressed me most was the wallet friendly pricing. I’d recommend setting aside about 2 hours to fully enjoy the space, which costs around SGD 6  – 8.50 per person depending on whether you visit on a weekday or weekend. For a family of 4, that’s under SGD 40 for a playground of this scale, definitely money well spent in my books.

Dash Kart – One Batam Mall

Dash Kart - One Batam Mall

This is the perfect weather proof karting option for families in Batam. Indoor, spacious tracks and affordable pricing was what attracted us when we chanced upon Dash Kart. You can choose from 3 speeds depending on your age and/or preferences.

Master level is the fastest, while Pro level requires one to be 15yo and above. Kids below 15yo can only go for junior level, with minimum height requirements of 110cm.

Step into an immersive LED adventure featuring 8 themed rooms, each with its own interactive challenge. Highlights include Floor is Lava, light-guided basketball throws, a life-sized game controller, stealth missions where you avoid detection by the big ‘eye’ while completing objectives, Mission Impossible style laser beams crossing, and several upgraded Floor is Lava challenges that even require climbing the walls to clear illuminated tiles!

Lockers are provided, and a dedicated staff member accompanies your group through all 8 rooms, explaining the rules and guiding the experience.

My family of four completed all 8 rooms in about 30 minutes with one attempt per game. If you think you’d like more time to replay the challenges or take things at a slower pace, the 60-minute package would be a better choice.

Selfie Time – One Batam Mall

Selfie Time - One Batam Mall

If you grew up loving Neo Prints (selfie photo booths), this place will take that experience to a whole new level. Imagine a selfie studio packed with themed rooms designed just for photos!

While researching it, I discovered that it’s actually the largest selfie studio in Indonesia, featuring an impressive 17 themed rooms. Every corner is thoughtfully designed, making it almost impossible to pick just one favourite backdrop.

Some of the themes include Santorini, a train carriage, vintage elevators, a pink hotel corridor, a van studio, a London telephone booth, colourful supermarkets, a Korean mart, and many more.

The best part? You get to keep all the digital copies of your photos. Depending on the package selected, you’ll receive 8–10 edited shots along with 1–2 physical 4R prints. Prices are very affordable too, ranging from approximately SGD3.25 to SGD4.70.

Indoor Playgrounds for Younger Kids

Goguma Korean Playground & Cafe

With the kids being older now, we usually skip indoor playgrounds geared towards younger children. That said, we came across two more spots during our visit that might be worth checking out if you have toddlers or preschoolers in tow.

With ball pits, gentle slides, and pretend play stations, these spacious playgrounds are great for helping little ones burn off some energy. I even spotted a dress-up corner in one of them, complete with Korean costumes for pretend play and photo opportunities.

Kidslandia – Grand Batam Mall

Kidslandia - Grand Batam Mall

Located right opposite our hotel, this indoor playground sits in Grand Batam shopping mall. We visited it on our checkout day, and spent an hour navigating the tunnels, tackling steep slides and exploring various play areas.

It’s a cosy, no-frills playground, but more than enough to keep the kids entertained while the adults squeeze in some last minute shopping before heading to the ferry terminal. At just S$6.45 for an adult-and-child pair, it’s a pretty wallet friendly option too!
