The Hougang Citrine playground features an otter-themed playground for kids, as well as a fishing village-inspired playground. Also tucked away at the roof top of the multi-storey car park, there is a hidden play space suitable for younger ones.

Located at the edge of Hougang, Hougang Citrine is a housing estate along Hougang Avenue 3. In case you are wondering where the estate gets its name from, it is from the warm, orange shades of the buildings.

One of the play areas at Hougang Citrine is an otter-inspired playground, found in front of Block 179A.

Otter Playground

The main play structure here features a cute otter facade with an entrance for kids to enter and play. This play structure is inspired by the smooth-coated otter, the most common species of otter in Singapore.

Regularly, spotted in Singapore’s rivers and reservoirs, otters hunt fish and other marine creatures like prawns and crabs. That’s why you will find little fish play panels on the front of the otter playground facade.

Inside the Hougang Citrine Otter Playground, kids can cross a rope bridge that leads to a higher platform at the rear of the playground where the haunches would be.

An enclosed tube slide serves as the otter’s tail.

Beside the otter play structure, another piece of play equipment at this Hougang Citrine playground is a cute dragonfly see-saw.

tunnel

There is also a tunnel designed to look like a log that kids can climb through.

A second play area at Hougang Citrine is the Fishing Village playground located in front of Block 179B.

Hougang was known as “Au Kang” in Hokkien and Teochew, which means “back of the river”. The villagers living here would fish in the river for a livelihood.

The Hougang Citrine fishing village playground draws inspiration from this aspect of Hougang’s past and features play equipment that includes a fishing boat teeter-totter.

Inside the tower

However, the highlight here is the tall climbing tower. With multiple levels, the tower challenges kids to scale up climbing ropes that criss cross the inside. At the very top, there is a curved tube slide.

Younger kids can play at the lower play structure.

standing swing

Other piece of play equipment is a standing swing where kids can sway back and forth, imagining that they are rocking on the waves of the sea.

Fishing rod

Another interesting feature here are the long fishing rods with a fish suspended at the end. Spin the reel to light up the fishing rod.

Rooftop Play

Rooftop Play

The last play area at Hougang Citrine is located at the rooftop garden above the multi-storey car park Block 180.

It is a simple affair with play panels as well as a set of hanging steps that kids can use to challenge themselves as they cross the wobbly elements.
