Tucked away at the basement of Palais Renaissance at Orchard Road, Estuary Restaurant & Bar is one of those spots that you need to know about to visit. As the name suggests, the restaurant focuses on seafood and amongst its signatures are fresh oysters along with aged fish and other innovative dishes.

We made our way to Estuary Restaurant & Bar for lunch one day on the recommendation of a friend.

The restaurant is located at the corner of the basement but it has an open storefront that is casual and welcoming with soft lighting while the occasional neon sign espouses that “The World is Your Oyster”.

Oysters are one of its specialities, along with other forms of seafood. But more about that later.

Menu at Estuary Restaurant & Bar

The menu at Estuary Restaurant & Bar is not large but it does hold several interesting options.

Amongst the starters are Crispy Scottish Stingray ($17.80), Ahi Tuna Carpaccio ($24.80), Amberjack Ceviche ($24.80) and Mackerel Meatball ($21.80), made with pork lard and tomato sauce.

There are also mains that are good for sharing including a 500 gram Sakura Pork Chop ($66.80) and 350 gram USDA Prime Ribeye ($75.80).

But where are the seafood options, you may be wondering?

Their seafood signatures include 7-days Aged Hamachi ($38.80) which comes with a toasted koji sauce, 3-days Aged Lemon Sole ($38.80) with seaweed caviar butter sauce and Haddock Fish & Chips, available in either 100 or 200 gram portions for $19,80 and $32.80 respectively.

Seasonal fish is also available.

Live oysters are also available and there is a Happy Hour every day before 8 pm where they are available at $4 per piece.

Menu at Estuary Restaurant & Bar

There is also a lunch special menu available. When we were there, on this lunch special menu were options like Spicy Cod Bolognese, Sarawak Laksa Beef Pasta and Pork Belly Claypot Rice.

As you can see, while Estuary Restaurant & Bar’s specialises on seafood, there are also different meat options on the menu as well.

We started off the a plate of oysters. This came in a plate with a variety of three different types, all from Japan. These creamy and fresh. The Sakoshi had a milder finish while the Emperor and Hyogo offered different taste profiles. The lunch was off to a good start!

creamy Pumpkin Soup

The lunch specials included either a soup of the day or a house salad. The soup of the day was a creamy Pumpkin Soup. We liked that it was not overly sweet.

There are also small side dishes available on the Estuary menu.

Jerusalem Artichoke Piccata

We order the Jerusalem Artichoke Piccata ($10.80). This was dressed with capers, and miso added a hit of umami. Interestingly, together with the artichoke pieces, there were also pieces of peach, adding both texture and flavour to the small plate.

Charred Brussel Sprout

We also ordered the Charred Brussel Sprout ($10.80). We always enjoy a nicely done brussel sprout. The one at Estuary had a twist to it with a scallop & shrimp XO sauce. This added an Asian touch to the usually Western-style preparation of the dish.

7-days Aged Hamachi

For the mains, we had an order of the 7-days Aged Hamachi. This was served with koji sauce and a blanket of spring onions on top. This was beautifully cooked with the koji adding a salty-sweet flavour.

Haddock Fish & Chips

The Haddock Fish & Chips was a straight forward and nicely done dish with a crisp battered coating. We had secretly hoped that it would be served with thick cut British-style chips but they came with shoestring fries instead.

Pork Belly Claypot Rice

Departing from the pescatarian menu, we also ordered the Pork Belly Claypot Rice from the Lunch Special menu. This dish is decidedly local but done with finnesse. The palm sugar marinated pork belly was luscious and soft, inviting us to dig in.
