Walking past the Esplanade Lawn, you may be curious about what the collection of wooden figures and sticks outside the Singtel Waterfront Theatre. These are part of an installation Kali – A Stream of Memory, installed in conjunction with the production by Papermoon Puppet Theatre that is taking place this December 2022.

A Giant Puppet Pops Up At The Esplanade Lawn

The installation expresses Papermoon Puppet Theatre’s interests in the bonds between humans and with nature. It is inspired by a village that is set by a river and is intended to celebrate the life-giving energy of human relationships and nature.

The Kali – A Stream of Memory installation features a larger-than-life puppet, houses on stilts and miniature puppets created from clay, wood and rattan.

Puppets at Esplanade Lawn

The large puppet is Kali, a guardian that watches over the village and the villagers, protecting what it deems most important.

The outdoor installation is just part of the overall storytelling of the production Stream of Memory by Papermoon Puppet Theatre. Stream of Memory takes place at the Singtel Waterfront Theatre from 13 to 18 December 2022.
