BuySingLit 2019 is an industry-led movement which celebrates home-spun stories about Singapore. With the tagline ‘Buy Local, Read Our World’, the movement highlights the wealth of talent we have on our tiny island, showcasing local writers, publishers and retailers advancing the written word.

This year, for BuySingLit 2019, there is plenty going on – in fact, it is the biggest edition of the local literary movement to date. Here are 7 interesting things to know about BuySingLit 2019.

1. #BuySingLit Has Expanded To 2 Weekends

#BuySingLit 2019: Stories Come Alive For Children With Pancake-Making, Fossil Show-And-Tells And Other Activities OverPast iterations of BuySingLit featured activities over one weekend. Now, BuySingLit 2019 has expand to two weekends – 8 to 10 March and 15 to 17 March – with more than 80 programmes at over 50 venues. There will be book fairs, book launches, meet-the-author sessions and book-themed outings – all in honour of our local literary heroes.

2. Enjoy Family-friendly Events

Dare You Dino, #BuySingLit 2019Singapore has an amazing talent base when it comes to children’s stories. These talents are widely represented at BuySingLit 2019. Written with local context in mind, local children books not only feature familiar places around Singapore but also come in our National languages. Whether your child is just starting out on his or her reading journey, or has ambitions to write the next Great Singaporean Novel, you will find events to suit his or her disposition at BuySingLit 2019. 3. Get a Story at Vending Machine (Sing Lit Cloud)

New at BuySingLit 2019 is the Sing Lit Cloud. This consists of vending machines where you can print out excerpts of Singapore literary works to snack on. Each excerpt only takes 1 to 5 minutes of reading. Get a dose of Singapore literature at these innovative BuySingLit machines found at Mapletree Business City, Our Tampines Hub and library@Harbourfront from 8 March 2019 till the end of the month.

4. Book Vouchers to be Won

BuySingLit Book VouchersKeep a look out for activities where you can win BuySingLit book vouchers. There will be contests during the BuySingLit weekends and giveaways to participate in where you can win these vouchers which are redeemable at participating stores and events. These book vouchers can be redeemed from 7 March all the way till 31 August 2019.

5. Ain’t No Party Like a #BuySingLit Yong Siak Street Party

Hang out with other lovers of Singapore literature at the #BuySingLit Yong Siak Street Party on 16 and 17 March 2019. It will be a chance to experience Singapore literature through performances, reading and discussions – all at the atmospheric Tiong Bahru neighbourhood.

6. Tikam Tikam Books

Take a chance on the SingLit Gachapon machines and discover SingLit book recommendations. Each capsule includes a magnetic bookmark and $10 #BuySingLit book voucher. Keep an eye out for these machines from 8 to 31 March at The Arts House, Books Kinokuniya Orchard, BooksActually, Popular Bookstore at Bras Basah Complex, Times the Bookshop Orchard and MPH Raffles City.
