When we were living in the States, I quietly aimed to bring my kids to explore a new children’s museum in every town or city we visited. Now living in Singapore, we carry that same playground-hopping spirit in both Singapore, and just a short drive away across the border, in Johor Bahru (JB), Malaysia. Lately, we discovered Star Kids Gym at Aeon Tebrau City, a newly debuted indoor playground in JB. Star Kids Gym stood out to us with its clear concept: fun fitness.
The brightly lit space is built around movement, strength, coordination, and health education—without feeling like a workout.
In line with the fitness angle, we noticed a couple of fitness infographics around the gym showing how long you need to run, or jump to burn off a cookie or chicken nugget. The information is made relatable for children. This made a good conversation starter with my children about how we could be mindful about what we consume, and what our bodies react to our consumption.

Star Kids Gym Indoor Playground in Johor Bahru: Play Highlights
The Giant J-Slide
Right from the entrance, the towering J-shaped slide is visible (genius placement). M was instantly thrilled — “I last tried this at Science Centre Singapore!” This version was more compact and better suited for younger kids too, so even little m gave it a go.
Moving Obstacle Wall
We haven’t come across this feature in other indoor playgrounds! The moving obstacle wall requires focus, dexterity and agility. m fell off and bumped his head against the side of the foam pit (thankfully, nothing serious), and we all agreed: not for the faint-hearted or very young.
M felt she could pretend to be a ninja over here.
Zorb Cylinder
The kids rolled me from one end of the room to the other while laughing uncontrollably. It’s hard to stay graceful in a tumbling cylinder, but the giggles were totally worth it.
Another feature you don’t often see in local indoor playgrounds.
Trampoline Basketball
The trampolines are paired with basketball hoops—a clever combo! Foam cubes from the nearby pit double as basketballs. M can’t quite dunk yet, but had a blast bouncing on the trampoline and shooting when in mid-air.
This feature at the indoor playground is great for hand-eye coordination and full-body movement.
Spacious Obstacle Gym
There are various sections of obstacle courses throughout the gym. Some like the swaying floorboards are challenging for my pre-kindergartener.
What I discovered was that unlike most indoor play gyms, the jungle gym at Star Kids Gym has abundant headroom. I didn’t have to crawl or duck awkwardly to follow my little ones through the obstacle courses.
Zipline Swing
My children were no strangers to the zipline swing feature because they had experienced it before at Fanpekka. The difference was – there isn’t a weight limit for the zipline swing at Star Kids Gym. Even I was able to ride it to follow my children around in the jungle gym.
Interactive Screen Soccer
In the middle of the indoor playground was a spacious compound with a massive screen. Soccer was one of the interactive screen games that could be played here. M loved that she could perfect her kick time and again with the computer’s help, and there wasn’t a physical goalie to give her stress!
There are also other play spaces within Star Kids Gym such as a sensory sand pit, a zipline integrated with one of the climbing frames and another electronic play screen.
Tips and Things that We Noticed at Star Kids Gym in Johor Bahru
Children are required to don communal helmets, jumpsuit and gloves provided by Star Kids Gym for the J-slide. While sanitiser is provided, bring your own if your children have sensitive skin.
Dressing kids in long sleeves and pants is also a good idea for children to minimise skin exposure. I would also recommend a swim/bathing cap beneath the helmets for children with sensitive scalps.
Sensory Pit Filler
The choice of filler for the sensory pit is tiny, white synthetic beads. A fellow mama gently cautioned me about the risks of such sensory beads, it might be a good idea to avoid vigorous tossing etc to prevent the litlte beads from getting lodged in parts of the body like nose, mouth or ears. Play safely with care!
Final Thoughts on the Star Kids Gym Indoor Playground
The Star Kids Gym indoor playground was a place where fun was forged through navigating myriad physical challenges and obstacles, and I loved that some features healthily stretched my children’s physical limits.
Overall, I found this indoor playground pretty suitable for my family with multi-age children, helped by the fact that there is a big kids bouncy slide and ball pit area, along with a smaller toddler zone slide and ball pit zone.
