Homegrown Ebb & Flow Group has launched Modern Provision, an online grocer that is committed to supplying fresh produce and gourmet staples sourced from boutique farms and artisans that care about their produce.

As a F&B group, Ebb & Flow recognised the need to establish a supply chain that allows them to source from producers that care about the products.

This led to the setup of Modern Provision, which leverages their direct connects with carefully selected farms and producers from around the region.

Modern Provision is an online retail grocer that offers quality produce at affordable prices, alongside homemade ready-to-heat foods, shelf items, perishables and typically discarded parts in a bid to minimise food waste.

Supplies from Modern Provision will also be channeled across Ebb & Flow’s various dining concepts

Mainly sourced from nearby Southeast Asia, Japan, Australia and specific parts of the larger world, the product categories at Modern Provision covers fresh produce (meats, poultry, seafood and greens), pantry staples, fine foods and ready-to-heat meals.

In shortlisting the food sources, the team has conducted farm visits.

Japan farm

Examples of farms where produce is sourced from include Kakiki Farm in Japan that breeds the rare Iwate wagyu, Clarence River Co-op in Australia that delivers plump and juicy prawns that are sustainably fished, and fruit and vegetables from Malaysia’s Talula Hill.

Modern Provision also carries a selection of ready-to-heat/eat items that are prepared in-house to maximise stocks and in turn, reduce food waste.

These have been conceived for busy folks who want to prepare quick meals at home.

Modern Provision also offers doorstep deliveries for shoppers’ convenience.

Chinese New Year Exclusive: Steamboat Sets & Hamper

Steamboat Set

For Chinese New Year, Modern Provision has several festive steamboat bundles that take out the work of preparation and make it easy to focus on enjoying the meal.

There are four steamboat sets with a choice of Seafood, Pork, Beef and Everything. Thse are available for delivery from 1 to 24 February. Each set is intended for up to 4 to 8 pax.

All steamboat sets come with a choice of either Seafood Dashi or Beauty & The Broth and a selection of organic mushrooms and greens.

Umami chilli crunch and sambal matah complete the set.

We had the opportunity to sample the Beef Set ($188) that spotlights Modern Provision’s emphasis on ethically-reared, premium Japanese beef in an assorted mix of four shabu cuts.

The beef cuts were top quality. It included Japanese grass-fed short-rib shabu from Iwate, Japan, short plate Kuroge Wagyu beef from Tochigi, Japan, and chuck shabu.

There was a generous selection of baby napa cabbage, tang o and leeks. There was also corn provided, which was exceptionally sweet.

The Beauty & The Broth came frozen and was made from pork and chicken that had been simmered for 48 hours into a collagen broth. It was delicious and we wished that there was more provided in the set.

Sambal Matah

Complementing the meats was housemade and MSG-free Sambal Matah and Umami Chilli Crunch.

The ready-made steamboat set was an easy, convenient and satisfying way to enjoy steamboat at home, especially during the Chinese New Year period.
