Minecraftians must be psyched to head to Minecraft Experience: Village Rescue happening at Mandai Wildlife Reserve from 24 April to 13 September! Singapore is its first stop in Asia after successful runs in Dallas, London and Toronto.
Minecraft Experience: Village Rescue Review
As a boymum with two Minecraftians, I know how much they would love to experience this and I get to flex that I got first dibs! I knew I had to level up my Minecraft know-how and gain some XP at the inaugural Minecraft Experience.
Expect skelly and piglins at the immersive and interactive experience which turns Minecrafters into real-life heroes as they journey through eight rooms to rescue a village under siege from a zombie attack.
The one-hour story-driven quest is one where Minecraftians and noobs can explore, craft and collaborate to save the day!
DEMPSEY HILL: Kid-friendly Guide to Dining & Things to Do
JURONG EAST SWIMMING COMPLEX: Family-friendly Splash Pad, Lazy River and Wave Pool
First Up: Registration & Preparation
The family-friendly experience lets visitors combine wildlife exploration, immersive play in one visit using large-scale immersive projections, theatrical sets, motion-tracking gameplay and experiential storytelling.
Step into the Minecraft Forest and travel through recognisable biomes, gathering resources, and interacting with iconic Minecraft mobs.
Each participant will be equipped with a unique “Orb of Interaction” that allows them to shape the world around them and influence the outcome of their adventure. The orb breaks blocks, damages hostile mobs, collect resources, open treasure boxes, collect resources and more. It vibrates, lights up, and changes colour depending on the action,
guiding guests through the Minecraft world.
Players can celebrate their heroic feat at the Minecraft Experience: Trading Post and take home a special keepsake to commemorate their victory.
Players can claim a highly sought-after in-game cape as a post-adventure reward for being part of the quest.
Everyone gets briefed on the quest as they enter the space. The main mission: rescue villagers by brewing a Splash Potion of Weakness. To gather ingredients, the group have to travel through the biomes!
After receiving the “orb of interaction” a cube that vibrates and changes colours, players then head to the Forest Training station. The “orb of interaction” responds to actions like mining, fighting, or moving to the next area. Hang on to it tight!
The Forest
The first stop is the forest biome where players will practise their basic skills. They can ”chop” trees for wood, “mine” blocks, and fight off zombies and spiders. Just keep shaking your orb as you stand in the right block!
Players can also collect resources like apples by stepping on them.
Place your blocks on the other characters in the room like the pig, sheep, chicken and creeper to see what happens.
Crafting Room
Here’s where teamwork comes in. Gather resources and start building the tools you need for later. The resources to collect include iron, wood, stone. Collect different resources using the orbs, then place or tap the orbs on the stands to make the weapons!
Remember the time limit and the exact resources you need.
Village
The next room is where fingers have to do the tapping. Help the village to grow and collect hearts, bread, open treasure chests to collect gold. These resources will help you in the next stage when night falls.
Unfortunately the village has been attacked and the villagers have turned into zombies!
Rescue the Village: Explore the Iconic Minecraft Biomes
We know what every hero has to do. In order to save the day, one will need to enter the biomes to collect resources. This immersive space has three biomes to navigate.
Swamp Biome
Search for brown mushrooms and sugar cane here.
Snowy Biome
Next, look for golden apples and gather snowballs to use as weapons later
Underwater Biome
Players “swim” through an ocean area, dodging an Elder Guardian while collecting resources from underwater Chests. Don’t worry, you will stay dry through your journey.
Mine Shafts
Here is where the action gets tougher. As a group, you will need to fight through waves of zombies and creepers. Use your orbs to help you as you place them on strategic parts of the Mine Shaft.
Pose at the minecart too, as well as with the skeleton and Iron Golem.
Building the Portal
To get to the final ingredient – Blaze Rods, players must build a Nether portal correctly by placing “lava” and “water” to create obsidian.
Portal & Crimson Forest
Be careful, the floor is lava. Avoid stepping on the lava to get across.
Arrive at the Crimson Forest but don’t let the pigs consume all your obsidian!
Combat and the Nether
Combat the final boss at the Nether here! Use all your might to throw the snowballs at the pigs, skeletons, zombies and creepers. It’s all hands on deck to defeat all the menace-causing characters.
Securing Victory at the Brewing Stand
After gathering all the items, the group will return to a brewing stand where they place orbs into slots to deposit the resources and create the cure for the zombie villagers.
Before the orbs are ready, some teamwork, tapping and shaking is needed to activate them!
It’s time to celebrate your victory! Players can find out how many villagers they saved on screen as well as the number of resources collected. Then check the email for the highly sought-after in-game cape as a post-adventure reward.
Gift Shop
Time to get some merch! The gift shop features exclusive “Minecraft Experience” merch including shirts, plushies and water bottles. One new item is the brewing stand with lights that can change colours.
Review on Minecraft The Experience
True fans will love the highly interactive experience especially the tweens. They possess the game knowledge to actually appreciate the specific mechanics of the experience.
Rather than more screentime, this is a physical experience crafting by placing orbs on physical tables in the correct patterns. Minecrafters would shine in this.
It is also a high-energy walk-through so get ready to sweat. Running between biomes, stomping on floor projections to collect resources and throwing physical snowballs will get them moving.
The tweens will also be the ones guiding their siblings, younger friends or clueless parents on how to navigate the biomes and how to make Obsidian and explain what a Brewing Stand does.
Plenty of photo opps await with various characters of Minecraft. The immersive experience also lets you experience being a player in the game in a real-world setting for a while.
For older teens, the experience might be a tad underwhelming given the linear framework of the experience.
As a parent, I’m glad that there is much physical activity involved and that I don’t need to yell “get off the screen” for some wholesome fun.
