It may look like a Pokeball but it is actually a capsule from a Gachapon machine. Red capsule machines have popped up around Kallang and Geylang as part of Arts in Your Neighbourhood 2020.

The gachapon machines can be found at within Joo Chiat Complex, Wisma Geylang Serai and Kallang Community Club. They are part of Let’s Tour Kallang & Geylang, a project of Arts in Your Neighbourhood November 2020 Edition.

For a dollar, you can get turn the knob at the gachapon machine and out will pop a capsule.

5 Designs to Collect in Gachapon Capsules

Let’s Tour Kallang & Geylang

Inside the capsule, you will find a little collectible, each based on a landmark found around the Kallang and Geylang area.

There are a total of five charming designs to collect. These range from the famous Old Airport Road Food Centre to the iconic shophouses of Geylang.

For those who do collect all five designs, share them on Instagram with the hashtag #ArtsinYourNeighbourhood to redeem a limited edition tote bag!

Where Your Fortune Takes You

Where Your Fortune Takes You

In addition to the collectibles, to kickstart your exploration of Kallang and Geylang, the capsule includes a sheet of paper for you to make an origami fortune teller (remember those?).

For those may have forgotten about this childhood game, the paper origami fortune teller allows you to open and close it in order to to pick a number with a “fortune” written behind it.

Where to go

In this case, the “fortune” is a suggestion of a place in the Kallang and Geylang neighbourhoods that you can explore with family and friends.

Old Airport Road Hawker Centre

It is a fun way to “tikam” a place to visit and look at with a fresh pair of eyes once again. (In our case, we needed a was a fresh stomach for a gastronomic adventure).
