Unlock a world of fun with LEGO Disney 43278 Frozen Mini Arendelle Castle & Elsa’s Ice Palace, featuring not just one but two buildable micro-world playsets. This Frozen-themed playset is the latest in LEGO Disney’s lineup of micro-world playsets, which also includes Moana and Encanto-themed ones.
LEGO Disney 43278 Frozen Mini Arendelle Castle & Elsa’s Ice Palace contains 306 pieces, and is recommended for kids aged 5 years old and up. For Miss 3.5yo whom I built this with, she did need quite a bit of guidance and direction, but was generally able to follow the clear and straightforward instructions and assemble most of the parts on her own.

We started out with the Mini Arendelle Castle, which, though small in size, is packed with details and fun little touches to discover. There is a bedroom (complete with well-made bed and hairbrush stand!) and balcony on one side of the castle, and a stable on the other side (complete with a carrot trough!) where a baby reindeer can bed down comfortably in. The castle is accented in vibrant hues like fuchsia and teal, bringing a warm and inviting atmosphere.
Don’t underestimate how functional this castle is – it even has a solid door with a knob that swings open to admit entrance. And the best part of course is the lock-and-key-feature – a key is included in this set that mounts to the side of the castle, and can be used to turn a lock to close or open up the castle, the two sides of which are joined by a hinge mechanism.
Moving on to Elsa’s Ice Palace, this has similar details to the Mini Arendelle Castle – there is also a bedroom, balcony and stable, though this one is for the Nokk to inhabit. One thing that struck us is how cohesive and in-theme the palace looks – the use of blue transparent bricks and other cool tones really capture the essence of Elsa’s Ice Palace, and instantly transports you into an icy wonderland. The icing on top of the cake is surely the giant snowflake that adorns the uppermost turret of the palace, further enhancing the frozen theme.
Minifigures – Anna, Elsa, Kristoff, Olaf and Others
Frozen 2 fans will be delighted to see beloved characters Anna, Elsa, Kristoff and Honeymaren, as well as Olaf, the Nokk, Bruni, a baby reindeer and even a Snowgie. Both the Nokk and the baby reindeer can be mounted, by a simple but clever design – simply remove the brick on their backs to reveal a LEGO stud that a minifigure can attach to. In particular, we love how the LEGO bricks seamlessly bring to life Olaf’s character – just like in the movie, his carrot nose can fall off from time to time, while his head and body can be separated and put back together any time.
Review of LEGO Disney 43278 Frozen Mini Arendelle Castle & Elsa’s Ice Palace
This micro-world playset is reminiscent of the OG Polly Pocket playsets which I grew up playing with, so it was really nostalgic to be able to build this with my princess-loving daughter and watch her play and explore with wonder and excitement. The myriad minifigures included provide for hours of imaginative play and reenactment of scenes from the movies.
The lock-and-key feature is really nifty – which little kid doesn’t relish the idea of holding a special secret key that can unlock a world of fun? This also enables the castle and palace to transform from a fun dollhouse-esque playset with all the rooms accessible for creative play, to a beautiful display piece with everything safely tucked inside (including safe from prying toddler hands!).
