The House Party is an annual celebration organised by The Arts House where artists, writers and musicians come together to share stories that inspire their being and their work. This year we highlight literary arts through a varied range of artistic expressions for both the young and young at heart.
From a showcase of Asian stories by master storyteller Kamini Ramachandran for children and adults, a photo exhibition by local photographers Liana Yang and Lavender Chang, a poetic musical dialogue curated by Young Artist Award winner Marc Nair, to jazz and chamber music performances curated by Aya Sekine and violinist Loh Jun Hong respectively, come join us to celebrate our artists!

The Indigo Jackal

Come snooping, sniffing and slinking into the wily Jackal’s world! Listen to the story of the cunning trickster and his most famous adventure. A sly tale from The Panchatantra retold by master storyteller Kamini Ramachandran with visual puppets and lots of audience participation.
This will be followed by a craft activity to make your own Jackal character.
Recommended for family audiences 4 – 7 years old.
All children must be accompanied by an adult throughout the session.
Music@Empress

Join us as the sun sets with a showcase of emerging and established jazz musicians. The featured musicians will also share more about their musical influences and experiences that have contributed to the development of their individual performance styles.
Music@Empress is an initiative by the National Arts Council.

Curated by violinist Loh Jun Hong, join a stellar cast of Singapore classical musicians in an afternoon of merry music-making, up close and personal! Expect contrasting soundscapes as the musicians offer a musical sampling of pieces by three composers, from three different countries.

As part of the exhibition Pet Me, Pet Me, Look at Me, Love Me by photographers Lavender Chang and Liana Yang, join in this fun artist activity with Chang.
Bring one of your favourite hawker dishes and join Chang for a light-hearted sharing session on the social and personal memories revolving around food.

Visit The Arty Party Room and put your mark on a community collage facilitated by artist collective 3 Pumpkins Projects. In addition, look out for featured performers from the main stage programmes who will drop in for bite-sized performances throughout the day.
pst… you hear?
Designed by 3 Pumpkins Projects and Diki, this interactive space invites visitors both young and old to enter the gallery and be absorbed in sound artist Zai Tang’s city soundscape, Sonorous City. While listening to a symphony of aural stimuli which are so familiar to city dwellers, visitors can attempt to create a playful landscape using a collage of geometric shapes, lines, found images, and letters.
Storytime by MoonShadow Stories

In this storytelling session, the works of the wackiest, wildest children’s author Dr. Seuss is brought to life! Join in the fun with The Cat in the Hat and delight in the classic Green Eggs & Ham!
Continue listening to the timeless Aesop’s Fables where animals compete and outwit each other. Told through colourful big books and puppets, rabbits, foxes, crows and more creatures come alive!
These storytelling sessions are performed by Daisy Mitchell, from MoonShadow Stories Young Storytellers Mentorship Programme.

Let’s Play!

Feast your ears in a pre-concert programme with husband-and-wife musicians Tan Wee-Hsin and Lillian Wang as they put the spotlight on the violin and viola, with compositions for string duos from virtuosos Mozart and Rolla.
Tribute to Our Founding Fathers Exhibition Tour
25 Mar | 11am–12pm & 5pm–6pm | Meet at main entrance 15 minutes before session | Free admission (20 slots only)
This interactive tour will take you through the trials faced by first generation nation-builders like Lee Kuan Yew, David Marshall, Toh Chin Chye, Goh Keng Swee, Edmund Barker, Lim Kim San and S. Rajaratnam vis-à-vis a journey through Singapore’s parliamentary system and first parliament building – The Old Parliament House – which is presently The Arts House. Relive the heady years of the 1960s to 80s and learn about how our pioneers overcame hurdles to forge history.
The tours are led by Hands on Learning.
