Workshops and performances showcasing the heritage of Chinatown and its various dialect groups will be taking place over the weekend of 18 and 19 March as part of the Five Footway Festival. 

This is the second weekend of the Five Footway Festival and there will be a mix of activities taking place around the streets of Chinatown.

Smith Street will play host to the One of Us, All of Us exhibition, as well as a roving exhibition on Chinese Opera.

Stop by at 3.30 pm for a Joss Stick Story Telling session, followed by a Hakka Song Performance at 4 pm and Hainanese Opera at 5.30 pm.

NINJA CHALLENGE: Bring your A-game for a Day of Sporty Fun at this Mall

On Saturday, 18 March 2023, for a taste of tradition, head to the Chinatown Visitor Centre to learn about Heritage Nanyang Tea or join in Chinatown Stories Alive! at 7.30 pm.

On Sunday, 19 March 2023 there will be a Hokkien String Puppet performance at 6 pm, and a Northern Lion Dance and Wushu Performance at 7.15 pm.

Other activities taking place include old school games like chapteh and hopscotch along Pagoda Street and a Kite Making Workshop at Sago Street.

Look out for Malt Candy being given away at 4 pm at Trengganu Street. 

Looking for some photo spots? Keep an eye out for heritage character cutouts in the form of mata mata (policeman), samsui woman , and teh tarik man (pulled tea) along Sago Street, Pagoda Street and Tregganu Street.

The Five Footway Festival organised by the Chinatown Business Association and aims to promote and highlight Singapore Chinatown’s heritage and culture. 

“We are glad to partner with different performance groups in promoting our heritage and culture. Chinatown Singapore’s history is deeply entwined with Singapore and is closely knitted to Singapore’s identity. We hope to bring great moments for our visitors,” said Ms. Lim Yick Suan, Executive Director of the Chinatown Business Association.
