Orchard Road will sparkle with lights once again during the year-end season with Christmas on a Great Street 2022 taking place from 12 November 2022 to 2 January 2023. In addition to the ever-popular Orchard Road light up, this year’s event will also see the return of various attractions and activations along the iconic shopping street.
Christmas on a Great Street 2022 is the first time since the pandemic that there will be full-scale programming and festivities along Orchard Road. Here’s a look at the various highlights of this year’s celebrations.
Christmas on a Great Street 2022 Highlights
Orchard Road Christmas Light Up 2022
The Christmas Light Up 2022 will stretch for 3.1 km from Tanglin Road to the end of Orchard Road. Along Orchard Road, 104 trees will be lit up with energy-saving LED white lights. The decorations will feature a ferris wheel and starry night design to herald in the carnival spirit of this year’s celebrations.
Look out for interactive set pieces to take picture with at the Orchard Road light up 2022.
At the junction of Orchard Road and Scotts Road, there will be the main arch with decorations of Christmas trees and reindeer.
Christmas on A Great Street 2022 Community Chest Light Up Ceremony
President Halimah Yacob will be the Guest of Honour at the Light Up Ceremony held on 12 November. This year’s Light Up Ceremony is held in partnership with the Community Chest. Through the event, the Community Chest is hope to raise funds for more than 100 social service agencies.
The Great Christmas Village
Returning to the Ngee Ann City Civic Plaza is the Great Christmas Village. The festivities here will take place from 7 December 2022 to 2 January 2023. There will be amusement rides and activities, live music and F&B options.
Some things to look out for at The Great Christmas Village include an all-white carousel, an inflatable bouncer and amusement rides. There will also be tapestry weaving, clay modelling workshops and more.
Pop Up Activations
From 12 November onwards, brands such as Gucci Beauty and Braun Buffel will be holding pop-up activations along the pedestrian walkway in front of ION Orchard to Mandarin Gallery.
Dual Facade Outdoor Projection Show
The multimedia 3D projection show with augmented reality features returns, taking place from 7 pm to 10 pm on the facade of Mandarin Gallery, facing Ngee Ann City. This is also where visitors will be able to view the countdown clock to Christmas and New Year’s Day.
This year, the projection will be joined by a second projection on the other side of the building, facing Somerset.
Augmented Reality and Music in the Air
Visitors can also enjoy some AR features by using the PopAR Live App to scan the key visuals on any of the 27 glass panels located along Orchard Road, between ION Orchard to Mandarin Gallery.
Popular Christmas tunes will fill the air at selected zones from Wheelock Place to Mandarin Gallery, enhancing the Christmas spirit and entertaining visitors daily from 10 am to 6.59 pm.
