Across the landscapes of Türkiye, blue appears everywhere — from the intricate Iznik tiles of Ottoman mosques to the shimmering waters of the Bosphorus.
At the Blue Beauties flower display at Gardens by the Bay, these rich tones are reflected through sweeping hydrangea displays, decorative arts and architectural recreations.
It blends botany with culture for visually stunning visit to the Flower Dome.
As visitors wander through the display, they will encounter recreations inspired by Ottoman gardens and bustling bazaars while gentle fountains, shaded pathways and carefully layered greenery recreate the tranquil principles of Ottoman garden design.
Welcomed by A Hot Air Balloon
Stepping into the Flower, the first sight that greets visitors is a display inspired by Cappadocia’s iconic hot air balloons.
The colourful balloon display even has a seating area that looks like you are in a balllon basket so that you can take a picture.
From the balloon photo spot, float down to the Flower Field to discover traditions that have shaped Ottoman daily life for centuries.
Topkapi Palace
Standing at the centre of the Blue Beauties display is a stunning recreation of the legendary Topkapı Palace, once home to Ottoman royalty for nearly 400 years.
The original palace was constructed in 1459, just six years after Mehmed II conquered Constantinople. It is positioned where the Bosphorus meets the Golden Horn, a site that was chosen for both its strategic strength and breathtaking views across the water.
The recreated palace at the Blue Beauties flower display draws inspiration from authentic Ottoman architecture.
You can step into the recreation to admire the pointed arches, recessed niches and intricate patterns, reminiscent of the empire’s famed blue-and-white Iznik tiles.
Iznik tiles among the Ottoman Empire’s most celebrated art forms, are echoed throughout the display in brilliant shades of cobalt and turquoise.
Around the rest of the Blue Beauties floral display at Gardens by the Bay, you will find displays inspired by Turkish lamp art along with other symbols of Türkiye’s heritage, such as the tea and coffee culture — symbolic of hospitality across the region.
Maiden’s Tower
Visitors can also step inside a recreation of the Maiden’s Tower, one of Türkiye’s most enduring legends.
According to folklore, a sultan built the tower on a small island to protect his beloved daughter from a prophecy that foretold her death by snakebite. Despite his efforts, fate prevailed when a snake hidden inside a basket of fruit bit the princess on her eighteenth birthday.
Step inside to take a picture and relive this tale.
Hydrangeas in Blue
Of course, the true stars of Blue Beauties are the hydrangeas themselves.
Hydrangeas get their signature blue hue when aluminium becomes available in acidic soil and binds to the flower’s pigment, altering its colour from pink to blue.
This fascinating botanical process makes hydrangeas one of the few ornamental plants whose colours respond directly to soil chemistry.
At the Blue Beauties display, these ever-shifting shades of blue beautifully mirror the ceramics, architecture and waterways that define the landscapes of Türkiye, bringing science, history and artistry together in one unforgettable floral experience.
