Peranakan cafe and bakery, Bibik Violet Great World has opened, bringing its handmade Nyonya kueh, nostalgic bakes and Peranakan cooking to the mall in the Kim Seng neighbourhood.
This is Bibik Violet’s second location, following it opening at Temasek Shophouse in 2025. And, according to Violet Oon, Culinary Curator Chef, the choice of the location hold deep personal meaning. “This neighbourhood holds a special place in my heart. My parents celebrated their union at Wing Choon Yuen right here eight decades ago, and my career began nearby at Times House. Returning with BIBIK VIOLET truly feels like a homecoming,” she said.

The Bibik Violet Great World outlet exudes a certain old-world charm. With fabric lamps hanging from the ceiling, floral cushions and pots of plants decorating the Peranakan tile trimmed wooden panels, it feels like stepping into a cosy living room.
The cafe offers a menu that includes Peranakan dishes and local favourites. You can start the day here with familiar breakfast items before one-dish favourites take over from lunch time onwards.
We were there at the 74-seat cafe in the morning and tried the breakfast menu items.
Food at Bibik Violet
Kaya butter toast is a staple of a local Singapore breakfast.
Bibik Violet takes this one step further. In addition to offering a peanut butter and toast, the Peranakan cafe also sells Hae Bee Hiam Toast.
This breakfast item features toast filled with the hae bee hiam or spicy dried shrimp sambal along with generous slabs of butter and slices of cucumbers. The umami flavours of the hae bee hiam was balanced off nicely by the cucumber with the butter adding a touch of luxury.
Other items available on the breakfast menu include mee siam and roti prata.
We were particularly taken in by the roti prata, which managed to be crispy on the outside but still retain a nice chew. The accompanying curry had a nice tang that added a touch of zest to the dish.
You can also order your variation of choice of local kopis and tehs at Bibik Violet.
From lunchtime onwards, a wider selection of dishes become available. These include Nyonya Laksa, Prawn Mee, Nasi Lemak, and Chicken Macaroni.
You can also small plates like Satay, Kueh Pie Tee, and Tau Hu Goreng to share.
Peranakan classics such as Buah Keluak Soft Rib, Babi Pongteh, Ayam Goreng Berempah, and Chap Chye can also be enjoyed with rice at Bibik Violet.
Cakes and Kuehs
If looking to stop in for a morning break or afternoon tea time, there are a selection of cakes and Nyonya kuehs available.
Exclusive to Bibik Violet Great World are the Banana Loaf Cake, Pineapple Upside-Down Cake, Marble Loaf Tea Cake, Pandan and Gula Melaka Marble Chiffon Cake, and Rum Balls.
Rum Balls are hard to find nowadays, so it was delightful to find these nostalgic treats available at the Peranakan cafe. They go especially well with a cup of kopi.
The bake that surprised us the most was the Banana Loaf Cake. This was extremely light, delicate and airy.
You can also choose from the selection of handmade Nyonya kuehs at the counter. There are also two new ang ku kueh flavours available – Black Sesame and Yam.
