Gillman Barracks is hold its birthday bash on Friday 20 September 2019 with its signature open house event, Art After Dark 2019 in Singapore! Event-goers can look forward to live performances and interactive arts experiences at the former barracks at Alexandra with activities and programmes from 7 pm till late.

Art After Dark Singapore 2019 x Gillman Barracks 7th Anniversary Celebrations will feature exhibitions by local and international artists. There will also be opportunities for visitors to enjoy programmes by Gillman Barracks’ resident galleries, NTU Centre for Contemporary Art Singapore and Playeum, Children’s Centre for Creativity.

Highlights at Art After Dark 2019 x Gillman Barracks 7th Anniversary Celebrations

Performance of The Rubbish Prince by 3Pumpkins

The Art After Dark 2019 edition will feature The Rubbish Prince, a performance with a 4.5-metre-tall puppet as its centrepiece. This interactive outdoor theatre show tells the story of two city rats and a young man who looks different from other urban dwellers.

It is suitable for all ages and the performance highlights the increasing need to care for one’s environment and the strength of the community to inspire change.

Music Performances

Funk-reggae band MMLD, jazz sextet D’Jantan Djogets, experimental music producer Fauxe will be there to bring the night to life with their musical beats.

Singapore Art Museum Mini Mobile Museum

The SAM Mini Mobile Museum is a travelling art exhibition which introduces the multifaceted nature of contemporary art through a selection of SAM’s permanent collection artworks, adapted for non-museum spaces created by Southeast Asian artists. At Gillman Barracks, it will feature The Land has Ears by Filipino artist Rodel Tapaya and will explore the rich mythology of the Philippines

EATEN: A Capsule Museum for Future Possible Past Beings

EATEN: A Capsule Museum for Future Possible Past Beings imagines a possible museum in the future where Artificially Intelligent beings from the year 2365 try to imagine and remember how humans in the present interact with technology. It will feature  digital works which have never been shown before, including an interactive light and sound experience.
