The Singapore Science Festival 2018 kicks off from 17 August until 8 September 2018 in celebration of the wonders of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

The year, more than 50 activities, workshops and talks have been lined up for the Singapore Science Festival 2018 with a focus on Artificial Intelligence or A.I. These activities will be held across the island at various events.

Meet young Makers at Makers Faire Singapore

The Singapore Maker Extravaganza is a showcase of the maker movement in Singapore.

On 18 to 19 August, head down to the Community Auditorium at Our Tampines Hub to view a showcase of what Singapore’s makers have been up to at Maker Faire Singapore. This family-friendly event celebrates the do-it-yourself culture with booths by scientists, engineers, artists and hobbyists. Admission to Maker Faire Singapore is ticketed at $10 for adults and $5 for children for a one-day pass and $15 for adults and $8 for children for a two-day pass.

Beside Maker Faire Singapore, a thought-leadership Maker Conference will also be held on 17 August as part of the Singapore Maker Extravaganza.

A.I Ready @ SC

When: 1 to 8 September 2018
Where: Science Centre Singapore

What is artificial intelligence and how can machines think like humans? Find out on a gallery trail at Science Centre Singapore that will be held from 1 to 8 September. The trail is suitable for ages 10 and above.

Science Centre visitors can also interact with an A.I. machine that will respond to their actions at a Demonstration Corner.

Kids between 4 to 6 years old can visit the Playmaker Studio at KidsSTOP on Thursday and Sunday to try out Code-A-Pillar, a tech-enabled toy for pre-schoolers that teaches problem-solving and critical thinking.

On 4 September at 11 am, visitors can also hear from Abhilash Murthy, founder of “Bus Uncle”, on how the AI-driven chatbot came to be.


X-Periment!

When: 7 to 8 September 2018
Where: Fusionopolis One Atrium

X-Periment! is science carnival which will shine the spotlight on the latest science developments and innovations. For Singapore Science Festival 2018, X-Periment! will feature 25 partners in a showcase of how A.I. is being used in the fields of health, medicine and more.

Want to have even more fun with Science?

Visitors can try painting with light using just a lightbulb at X-Periment! (7 September: 12 pm, 4 pm, 5 pm; 8 September: 11 am, 12 pm, 4 pm 5 pm). Or have a hoot by journeying through an inflatable digestive system and learn how the body converts food to energy.


Science Buskers Festival

When: 31 August to 1 September 2018
Where: Plaza Singapura, Outdoor Plaza

Ever found science concepts hard to understand? Science Buskers from various schools will be out to show that science is easy to grasp with their science communication skills.

The finalists of this year’s Science Buskers Festival will be out to entertain and share about science in interesting and funny ways on 31 August and 1 September 2018. If you like what they do, cast your vote for them!
