Thinking of heading somewhere with the family for a quick holiday? How about a staycation along Orchard Road at voco Orchard. Sited at the former Hilton, voco Orchard has gone through a re-brand to host business travellers, tourists and families to the refreshed luxury hotel.

Voco Orchard Staycation Review

The iconic property in Orchard is 51 years old, many of us would have passed it and remembered the menacing samurai right outside standing guard or the murals “Eulogy to Singapore” by Gerard D’ Alton Henderson. By the way, the murals feature ancient symbols such as wayang masks and Singa faces.

We were invited for a staycation at voco Orchard and here are our top seven reasons why you should go for a staycation in the heart of Orchard Road.

Reasons to Book at voco Orchard Staycation

1. Location

Reasons to Book at voco Orchard Staycation

voco Orchard is located in the heart of Orchard Road and just five minutes away from Orchard MRT station. It is extremely convenient to go shopping, watch a movie, grab a bite at Singapore’s favourite shopping belt!

Guests can also use one of the hotels’ brightly coloured bicycles and cycle up and down the stretch.

2. Spacious Suite

Spacious suite

Our home for the night was the spacious King Bed suite with sofa bed – perfect for a family of four or four adults.

The suite consists of a living room, dining table, ensuite bedroom and also an additional washroom. We liked the contemporary look of the room with its mod-vintage furniture and bright colours. While it was situated in an old property, we could hardly tell with the rejuvenation. Main controls were one-touch and the mood lighting was a tad futuristic much like having the moon in the room.

As we had to work on our laptops, the desks, reading armchair, dining table were ideal for some desk work and Zoom calls.

Our bed was also one of the most comfortable beds we have slept on – its bedding was created from over 150 recycled plastic bottles! The fabric was produced in line with the Better Cotton Initiative to support sustainable cotton harvesting. This showed voco’s commitment to sustainability with eco-friendly practices.

For those who love hotel toiletries will be treated to Apotheke a Brooklyn plant-based organic skincare range of amenities. These were provided in large-sizes rather than mini bottles, this reduces waste and definitely a good move towards care for the environment.

3. Rooftop Pool

Rooftop Pool

In our humidity and heat, what better way to cool off than to head to the rooftop pool!

The pool, at level 23, gives guests a chance to have a panoramic view of Orchard Road. Watch the busyness of the traffic, identify the malls around and just soak in the vibrance of the shopping belt.

4. Hearty Buffet Breakfast

Hearty Buffet Breakfast

One thing we always look forward to are hearty buffet breakfasts and voco Orchard’s do not disappoint. A wide spread awaits us – local fare, south Indian cuisine, Western dishes, even an assortment of tropical fruits like Jackfruit, Longan and Mangosteen. Aren’t we glad buffets are back after the temporary disappearance at the height of the pandemic?

Obviously, we were all thrilled to indulge in a tasty and nourishing breakfast.

5. Delightful High Tea Sets

Delightful High Tea Sets

Fans of high tea will enjoy the high tea sets at Opus Bar & Grill!

There are sets for adults and children comprising of delectable treats, both savoury and sweet. The adults’ portions have Citrus Cured Salmon, avocado, black pepper sour cream wrap, Prawn Cocktail brioche roll, Crispy Chicken & Fig jam slider, Egg, caviar focaccia, key lime tart, chocolate cake and Pandan Gula Melaka cake aside from macarons. It also came with a chocolate fondue, perfect for a family to share!

Our favourite was the scones, buttery and crumbly paired with cream and jam. Well, scones are an essential part of tea.

For the kids, they had their fair share of cakes, macarons and savoury portions. Just next to the main seating area was the play area for children to be busy playing or watching cartoons. It was perfect as the children were within sight playing and the adults could focus on their tea.

6. Club Lounge

Need a break or a quick bite? Head to the Club Lounge on level 22. Cocktails and light canapes are served between 5.30 to 7.30 pm.

It was a conducive place to read, rest and munch on light snacks, and indulge in a cocktail or two.

Since we were too full, from high tea, we decided to check out the Club Lounge for light bites. We chose the Prosecco while the children had mocktails. These were paired with fried chicken, salad and roasted vegetables, fresh fruits and were so sumptuous we asked for seconds.

For those who tend to be peckish, Club Lounge access was the ideal place to grab snacks such as nuts, biscuits, gummy bears. voco Orchard is the only hotel under the voco brand to have a Club Lounge, so savour the opportunity if you opt for Club Lounge access.
