As part of Singapore Design Festival, Singapore Science Park’s “REINVENTION” themed festival is a free family-friendly event with a lineup of programmes designed to spark curiosity.
Inspire the little ones to be scientists, architects and leaders of tomorrow through displays of the latest technology, interactive exhibits, interpretations of what the future may be like and more.
Highlights of REINVENTION at GENEO Mall, Singapore Science Park
Even if you haven’t been to GENEO Mall, you must have heard of it. Its iconic cathedral-like atrium and open-air event plaza is where REINVENTION is taking place.
Expect to see over 50 partners across disciplines from robotics and AI to sustainable design, food innovation and wellness in the festival all about science, technology and design.
UE SQUARE’S COSMIC SPACE EXPEDITION: Have An Out-Of-This-World Adventure!
CARNIVAL OF CHRISTMAS CHEER: Celebrate and Win at Plantation Plaza and Northshore Plaza!
SNOW MUCH TO CELEBRATE: Christmas Fun at The Centrepoint
REINVENTION is about a continuous process of adaptation and creativity. Over 11 days, exhibitions, conferences, and design encounters will showcase how design connects industries and communities.
With over 50 partners across healthcare, urban development, robotics, agrifood tech, and creative design, the district becomes a vibrant platform for exploration and imagination.
There are four main spaces to visit at two levels of GENEO Mall. Located right next to the drop-off is a showcase of Robots of Tomorrow, across the foyer is where you can find another showcase by Science Centre Singapore and NTU School of Art, Design & Media.
Then head downstairs for two more showcases – one on interactive experiments at BYOX and sustainable designs.
Lobby 1B: Man + Machine

You will find a display of many robots here of varied designs. See robots that clean, analyse mosquito issues, locate stagnant water, assist the differently abled and even gives tuina massages.

We had fun at Lionsbot’s design a robot booth. Both the tween and teen tried their hand at designing a robot and then were amazed to see their creations shown on the screen almost instantaneously.
Lobby 1A: Sustainable Mobility and Poetic Designs

We checked out a VW electric bus with adorable decals – this could be taken on a test drive. There was also a section calling for inputs from the public on the new Science Centre Singapore.

For works by students from NTU School of ADM, check out their exhibits. One is a playful take on 26 letters of the alphabet as shelters and meeting points.
Titled “Letter Red Dot”, the exhibit showcases typography-themed installations merging typography, spatial design, and placemaking.
This section was not fully ready when we visited. Visitors can expect workshops on weekends of 13 to 14 September on The Time Traveller’s Guild and on 20 to 21 September on Dinosaurs and extinction.
Young inventors can step into the shoes of engineers and whisk off on a time-travelling adventure or reconstruct actual Dinosaur fossils with art and craft.
The BYOX Fair

This is where you might spend more of your time! This science-powered playground showcases designers and technologists experimenting with AI, robotics, sensors, and tactile processes, featuring sustainable materials and inventive booths.

We played games through scanning barcodes, customised our very own rhythms using drumbeats on a compact control pad, pointed at the “moon” and closed a circuit just by pressing on a locket. There were also other very tactile experiences for the little ones to try.
One part of the fair displays easy-to-wear clothes suitable for those with dementia and differently-abled. We saw how we can rethink conventional designs that are suited for various needs.

Other Highlights at REINVENTION, GENEO Mall
Many other innovative designs await families at REINVENTION, GENEO Mall.
From furniture made from electronic waste and sugarcane, to building materials made with material scraps, we could see many possibilities with the goal of using sustainably sourced materials which might be recycled or upcycled.

Think you’re familiar with QR codes? Check out technologist Siah Tiong Hong’s installation that spins every three minutes and eventually unveil a compact QR code.
Looking quite different from the squarish QR codes we are used to, the QR code in a rectangular shape allows for compact QR codes to be placed on smaller surface such as on test tubes.
Head to the open area near The Seed where you can find giant inflatable structures called Strange Terrain by Nimble Mystic. Sadly, we couldn’t check this out due to the wet weather.

Visitors can also use self-inking stamps on four stations with different designs to complete their postcard design!
