NLB’s annual celebration of the joy of reading returns! Read! Fest 2017 invites the curious and bookish of all ages to spice up their reading diet through an array of programmes across the public libraries.

The Adventures of Ang Ku Kueh Girl and her Friends on the Little Red Dot is an illustrated series for early readers. In this talk for children, find out the inspiration between the characters and their adventures. What and where is the Little Red Dot? What is so special about the Dragon Playground? Why is the spider so kan cheong? Who is the Blur Sotong?

This programme is conducted by Wang Shijia, the writer of The Adventures of Ang Ku Kueh Girl and Friends series. She has been creating Singapore-themed accessories as a hobby since 2003. She observed only a handful of prominent local characters and set out in 2011 to create unique illustrated personalities inspired by Asian food.  She reinterprets our local food culture and heritage as characters in a light-hearted manner, seeking to bring joy and happiness to the world. Ang Ku Kueh Girl and Friends puts a charming twist on Asian heritage and is an icon that both the young and the young-at-heart find easy to bond with.

This programme is suitable for children aged 7 – 9 years old.
