Oasis Hideout is a dining spot tucked away at Singapore Polytechnic Graduates’ Guild. Open to the public, the restaurant serves up an interesting menu that features Western food with a fusion twist, unleashing surprising flavours and interesting combinations that you would not find elsewhere.
Oasis Hideout at Singapore Polytechnic Graduates’ Guild
Oasis Hideout opened back in 2022 and is located within the Singapore Polytechnic Graduates’ Guild, just off Dover Road and next to New Town Secondary School. With outdoor seating, it is can be found just beside the swimming pool in the clubhouse.
The restaurant was a result of the coming together of four friends, one of whom, Antonio Tay, anchors the kitchen at Oasis Hideout. With a background running hawker stalls, Oasis Hideout is their venture into running a restaurant and their aim is to deliver affordable Western dishes that still reflect their Asian heritage.
The result is an interesting menu that distinguishes Oasis Hideout which we recently had the chance to try.
THIS WEEKEND: Unleash the Power of Stories for Kids with Workshops, Storytelling Session, Book Launches & More
Food at Oasis Hideout
We started off with the meal with Salmon Salad ($15.90). This zesty salad was topped off with generous pieces of salmon that had been dressed with an orange mayo and balsamic vinegar for a bright flavour. Bits of papadam added to the texture and also provided an Asian nod.
We also enjoyed the house-made onion rings ($8.90) which were coated with a tempura batter and dusted with paprika for a deeper flavour.
The Signature Chicken Chop ($11.40) is a grilled boneless chicken thigh served with brown sauce. It had a nice sear and was well flavoured and we thought it was also well priced. Also accompanying the chicken chop were corn ribs. These little nibblets were a nice alternative to the usual corn on the cob.
It is not often that you find Chicken Parmigiana on a menu in Singapore. The Crispy Chicken Parmigiana ($13.90) was a crispy chicken cutlet that was so huge that it served as an ample base for the tomato and cheese melted on top.
Pasta Dishes
Oasis Hideout also offers a number of pasta dishes.
Amongst these is the Chicken Pinky Pasta which features the Chicken Chop with spaghetti served with Marie Rose sauce.
The pasta dishes are also where Oasis Hideout stretches out with the flavours.
In addition to usual flavours like aglio e olio and carbonara, you can also try Tom Yam Seafood Pasta ($15.90), a spicy dish that combines linguine with sour and sweet tom yam flavours along with seafood like prawns and squid.
The Laksa Seafood Pasta ($15.90) is inspired by local laksa but with a dry twist and a fried egg on top.
Cheese-Drenched Burger and Meltique Beef Steak
For the carnivores, Oasis Hideout also has some showstopping items to pique the interest.
The self-declared Messy Burger ($19.90) lives up to its name by arriving completely covered in cheese. Not sure if you would prefer chicken or beef? You don’t have to choose as it has both a chicken cutlet and a beef patty sandwiched between the burger buns with a sunny side up egg for good measure.
For the sizzle and the steak, you can order the Meltique Beef ($33.90). Meltique beef is a type of beef infused with additional natural beef fat to make it extra juicy. The ribeye cut is served on a hot stone so that you can cook to your preferred level of doneness. Accompanying it is a pineapple along with brinjal and long beans with sambal.
