The JAPAN RAIL CAFE x Pompompurin collaboration transforms a simple café visit into a cheerful Japan inspired food adventure filled with themed dishes, gentle flavours, and adorable surprises.
Running until 14 June 2026, this limited time collaboration is also part of Pompompurin’s 30th anniversary celebration, marking three decades since the pudding loving pup first appeared in 1996.

Pompompurin is Sanrio’s golden retriever character, best known for his brown beret and love for pudding; “purin” is the Japanese word for pudding, after all.
His soft and friendly personality has made him especially popular with children around the world. In 2025, he edged out Cinnamoroll to become the number one character in the global Sanrio Character Ranking.
All Aboard the Japan Rail Cafe Express, No Ticket Needed
Operated by JR East, JAPAN RAIL CAFE introduces Japanese food culture through seasonal regional menus inspired by different parts of Japan.
This collaboration spotlights the Tohoku region, known for comforting dishes that feel warm, familiar, and easy to enjoy for both kids and adults.
Despite the playful presentation, the food never feels gimmicky. Flavours are carefully balanced, not too salty and not too sweet, making the dishes genuinely enjoyable rather than simply decorative.
All aboard the Pompom Curry Rice food express
The Pompompurin Curry Rice may look playful, but the real surprise is how well balanced it tastes.
The curry is mild and comforting rather than spicy or overly rich, while the omelette rice stays soft and fluffy throughout. Juicy karaage chicken on the side adds a satisfying crisp bite and rounds out the meal nicely.
The portion is also fairly generous, so younger children may prefer sharing this plate with siblings or parents.
Slurp-worthy Beef Udon
The Inaniwa beef udon stands out because the quality feels just as good as what you would expect from many Japanese restaurants outside of a themed collaboration.
The broth is light yet flavourful, though slightly savoury for younger palates, so parents may wish to add a little hot water for smaller children. The noodles soak up the broth beautifully and are wonderfully easy to slurp, while the shabu shabu beef slices are tender, lean, and cooked just right.
Watching my four-year-old happily slurp up the entire adult bowl mouthful by mouthful was probably the strongest review possible.
Jiggly Pudding, Wobbly Delight
The Pompompurin pudding dessert is more than just cute plating. The pudding used here is the same style served in Japan, giving it an authentic touch and a small nod to the precision Japanese desserts are known for.
Instead of a soft custard texture, this pudding leans slightly firmer, closer to a konnyaku jelly texture; smooth, springy, and refreshing.
Underneath sits a layered base of chocolate banana crispy muesli and whipped cream, topped with banana slices and a chocolate love letter roll biscuit. Every layer adds a little crunch, creaminess, or sweetness, making the dessert feel surprisingly thoughtful and well composed.
Sip Sip Hooray: Yuzu Twists & Banana Bliss

The drinks strike a nice balance by staying flavourful without becoming overly sweet.
The banana milk is like a lighter milkshake, creamy and smooth, topped generously with whipped cream and chocolate sauce, yet still easy to drink without feeling too heavy.
Meanwhile, the yuzu drink is bright and refreshing, packed with real yuzu peels and syrup that give it a strong citrus aroma while keeping the drink clean and refreshing.
Café Vibes and Pompompurin accompaniment on the sides
The café itself has been fully transformed with Pompompurin and friends cut outs, themed table designs, and cheerful decorations throughout the space. Pompompurin plush toys can even be borrowed to “join” diners at the table during meals.
Screens around the café play Pompompurin videos on loop, adding to the immersive atmosphere without becoming distracting.
In addition, service throughout the café is attentive and efficient, even during busier periods.
With so many elements taken into consideration, this is clear dedication to the cause!
The Pompompurin Meal Loot Drop
Every meal set comes with a free collectible gift:

Stamp Your Way Through their Monthly Dish Adventure Card
The café’s monthly stamp card programme is another fun detail inspired by Japanese travel culture, where collecting commemorative stamps at train stations and attractions is a popular activity.
Each monthly special dish ordered earns diners a unique stamp, regardless of when they visit during the year. Over time, the colourful collection builds into a keepsake style print unique to the café experience.
Just remember to ask the cashier for that month’s stamp when ordering the featured special.
If there is one review to leave you with, it would be a quote from a four-year-old: “Can we come again tomorrow?”
