Curious to see what Terminal Five Changi Airport is going to look like? T5 in the Making exhibition opens on 6 January and it is where you are going to get wowed by the largest terminal yet, decades in the making. 

Opening in phases starting mid 2030s, T5 will be located within the 1,080-hectare Changi East development almost as big as the land area of today’s Changi Airport. When the first phase opens in mid-2030s, T5 will be able to handle about 50 million passenger movements a year.

Through five zones of interactive displays and a scale model plus experiential spaces, see the magic behind the airport of the future. 

Learn about the history of Changi Airport, the vision and design of Terminal 5 and how Changi Airport addresses challenges of manpower constraints to meet rising air travel demand in Asia with other factors such as an ageing population, and climate change. 

We visited the exhibition and found it to be accessible even for little ones. It was easy to read the information and understand more about the airport. Witnessing the transformation of the area with the information presented excites us very much!

After booking your slot online, head to T3’s arrival hall, more specifically near where Mcdonald’s is. 

At the check-in area, collect your personalised “boarding pass” with your name on it. This pass is also a stamp rally card where you can collect five adorable Buddy Bear embossed stamps.

Then head to the waiting area where you can take photos with the mascots – larger-than-life Buddy Bears before you enter the theatre for a multimedia showcase. 


Zone 3: From Vision to RealityZone 3: From Vision to Reality

Get seated and keep your eyes peeled to see the vision of T5 brought to life. The 6 minute multimedia presentation is an immersive one, focusing on the mega-scale project. 

Visuals of what T5 will look like are projected, together with advanced technological features using robotics, climate-sensitive features and more. From the presentation, T5 seems to exude an open concept, incorporating nature in its designs and of course the use of technology to ease mobility of passenger and baggage traffic.

Then walk right ahead to the next room to catch a glimpse of what it would be like in reality at the upcoming terminal.

Get greeted by a humanoid as you enter this zone. Discover how Changi Airport will use smart technology to transform labour-intensive operation, prepare for climate change, and enable seamless mobility. 

From robots that can handle luggage to wheelchairs that make their way to users, visitors can see examples of the innovation and technologies explored. Baggage robots are being tested under bad weather conditions too. So even if it’s storming, there can be still timely delivery of baggage for passengers.

Imagine what the future terminal could look like – input your preferences into the interactive station and take a selfie with the customised backdrop.

Here are some features to look forward to at T5:

  • Passengers at the future Changi Airport Terminal 5 can expect to reach Terminal 2 in 4 minutes via the airport’s new underground link.
  • The automated system, similar to the existing Skytrain, will operate at a frequency of 4 to 8 minutes.
  • Beyond T5, Changi East is designed to withstand extreme weather and climate change effects. The airfield is designed with an elevation of 5.5m above sea level. Aircraft taxiways are sloped to allow rainwater to drain off.
  • The baggage tunnel can transport a whopping 3000 bags an hour!
  • T5 will be well-connected to the rest of Singapore. Through the ground transportation centre located within the terminal, travellers can access train, bus, taxi and other transport services to connect to the rest of Singapore.
  • Thomson-East Coast Line will be extended to Terminal 5 to connect it directly to the city centre, and further northwards to the Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link terminal at Woodlands North.
  • The Cross Island Line is also planned to connect Terminal 5 to other major hubs such as Punggol Digital District and Jurong Lake District.
  • Aviation Park Station on the Cross Island Line is planned to serve the wider airport community at the Changi Airfreight Centre and Changi East Industrial Zone.
