The school holidays have officially started and there’s lots going on that will make for fun days out, from carnivals and picnics to exciting sporting events, a book fair and film screenings.

1. Singapore Book Fair 2017

The 32nd edition of this long-running book fair offers much more than print books, with music performances, movie screenings, craft workshops and other enriching programmes lined up. More info.

2. Members’ Extravaganza at Jurong Bird Park

3 to 26 June

The June weekends are fabulous times for visiting the Bird Park, where craft activities, bird encounters and photo opps, and puppet shows are taking place. Members can also try their hand at being a parrot-keeper or stand a chance to get up close to feed the penguins. Learn more.

3. DBS Marina Regatta 2017

1 to 4 June

4. Gardens Extravaganza Special

3 & 4 June, 7:30 pm to 8:30 pm

Gardens by the Bay

This spectacular evening showcase marking the Gardens’ 5th birthday will feature aerial performances set against the projection-mapped Supertrees. Other special activities are also on this weekend, including a dance party, movie screening and a fun zone for kids. Details.

5. Singapore International Children’s Film Festival

3 June

The Ngee Ann Kongsi Auditorium, National Gallery Singapore

Bring your kids on a fun, exciting journey through the world of film and let them experience the magic of the big screen. There are four films to pick from this Saturday, for ages ranging from two to 18. More info.

6. RepTopia

Singapore Zoo and River Safari

See reptiles in a whole new light at the Zoo and River Safari’s new exhibits. A range of activities including games, crafts and enrichment sessions have been slated to help kids learn more about these fascinating creatures. Details.

7. Carnival by the Straits

3 June, 10 am to 5 pm

SAF Yacht Club

You’ll have a ball at this seaside carnival that’s packed with sea sports, joyrides, games, food and more. There is also a fancy dress contest, treasure hunt and more in store. More info.

8. NParks Concert Series in the Park: Rockestra

3 June, 6:30 pm to 10:30 pm
