With festivals and celebrations galore in the coming weeks, there is no shortage of fun, interesting things to do as a family this weekend! Here, we highlight some of the events and activities worth looking out for.

1. Tanjong Goodman 2016

23 Jan, 10 am to 6 pm

Goodman Arts Centre

Enjoy a full day of arts adventures together as a family at this annual open house of the Goodman Arts Centre. From puppetry and batik to dance and energetic performances, visitors will get to experience a diverse range of art forms and learn from some of Singapore’s brightest artistic talents. 2. The Speed of Paint!

24 Jan, 10 am to 6 pm

Children’s Centre for Creativity, Gillman Barracks

As part of Singapore Art Week, Playeum presents this one-day festival where kids can discover the world of paint through free hands-on activities. Activities lined up include experimental painting, fun with flying paint and customising your own t-shirt by standing in a life-sized paint-spinning machine. You can even explore the Children’s Centre for Creativity, which is offering free entry all day. Details here.

3. Chinatown Festive Street Bazaar

Till 7 Feb, 6 pm to 10:30 pm

Chinatown

With less than a month to go before Chinese New Year, you can beat the crowds by making an early trip to this festive fair, a signature event on Chinatown’s calendar. Stock up on festive snacks and delicacies, shop for home decor, clothing and all things CNY, or simply soak up the festive atmosphere.

4. KidsFest! 2016 – The Gruffalo

21 to 24 Jan

School of the Arts Drama Theatre

Join Mouse on an exciting adventure through the deep, dark woods in this highly-acclaimed musical adaptation of the award-winning children’s book. Filled with songs, laughs and fun, it’s a show everyone from ages three to 101 can enjoy.

5. Circus Circus

23 Jan, 10 am to 6 pm

Macdonald House

This carnival promises a day of fun, with engaging programmes for kids and parents alike. Bond over games and yoga, attend educational parenting talks, or let the little ones cut loose at the bouncy castle and obstacle course. 6. 9th International Lion Dance Competition

23 to 24 Jan, 6 pm to 11 pm

Hong Lim Park

Get set to be awed by jaw-dropping stunts and rousing rhythmic drum beats at this intense competition, as 14 top troupes from all around Asia vie for the title of ‘King of the Lions’. Tickets are required, so hurry and get yours now before they’re all snapped up. Find out more.

7. CNY Kids Fair and Fashion Extravaganza

22 to 23 Jan, 9 am to 5 pm

Loewen by Dempsey Hill

For some exclusive and unique kids outfits and products from overseas, head down to this shopping fair at Dempsey Hill. Little ones will also be treated to a giant bubble show, face painting and an ice-cream uncle on site.

8. Merryn’s Monoprinting and “Street” Art Spray Painting Workshops

22 to 24 Jan, 2 pm to 4 pm

HUFF Studio, Gillman Barracks

Have some creative fun at this painting workshop with artist Merryn Trevethan, who will help participants create their own monoprints and spray paint artworks. Pre-booking is necessary. Details here.
