The countdown to Christmas and the New Year has started! If you’re not yet tied up with festive shopping, gift-wrapping and party planning, check out these fun family-friendly events happening around town.

1. Gardens by the Bay Christmas Wonderland

Till 3 Jan 2016, 4 pm to midnight

Supertree Grove, The Meadow and The Flower Dome

There’s no way a list of family activities this period can exclude this giant yuletide fair. Apart from the light sculptures, “snow blizzards”, toy-themed floral displays and festive market, there are also old-fashioned funfair rides,  Christmas-themed light shows and even an indoor snow playground and skating rink. 2. Cinderella, A Fairly True Story

What’s Christmas without a little fairytale magic? This new take on the familiar classic, told through the eyes of an inquisitive reporter, puts an modern twist on the story and features spectacular visual effects, such as the famous pumpkin and dress transformation scenes.

Indulge in festive shopping for family and friends, while young ones enjoy some fun and educational activities like storytelling, making and writing with your own Egyptian cartouche and learning about old-time kampong games. Do note that all the the children’s activities take place on 19 Dec.

4. Kids Craft: My Fireworks @ Esplanade

19 to 20 Dec, 1 pm to 5 pm

PIP’s Festival Corner, Esplanade

As part of its Celebrate December campaign, the Esplanade has organised a series of free music performances, activities and craft workshops for kids such as this. Using provided craft materials, you and your kids can learn to create your own firework artpiece.

5. Downtown East Toy Swap

19 Dec, 12 pm to 6 pm

Downtown East Event Square

Want to get your kids some new toys without spending a fortune or adding to the clutter in the home? Then bring along your cleaned and complete toys which are in good working condition and exchange them with other like-minded families. You can also swap five of your toys for a new one with the organiser. Details here on the criteria for swapping.

6. Visit the koalas at the zoo

8:30 am to 6 pm

Singapore Zoo

The four furry guests from Down Under will be heading home soon and the zoo has lined up a series of koala-themed events in their honour, to be held during the weekends in December. 7. Beautiful Sunday – It’s Party Time!

Esplanade Concert Hall

Part of the Esplanade’s series of free concerts by homegrown music groups, this performance by the Mus’Art Youth Wind Orchestra puts a symphonic twist on popular party anthems, including songs byMaroon 5, The Village People, Bon Jovi, Earth, Wind and Fire, Donna Summer and many more.

8. Christmas Pop-up Market

Till 24 Dec, 6 pm to 11 pm

CHIJMES, The Lawn

Treat yourself and loved ones to handmade Christmas gifts, and indulge your sweet tooth along the way with gourmet creations by local vendors. There is also face painting, caricature drawing, carolling and performances by roaming musicians for a fun, festive vibe.
