“We love the Botanic Gardens!” exclaim Timmy, Tammy, and family in the book Timmy & Tammy At the Botanic Gardens.

It’s easy to see why. The Singapore Botanic Gardens offers wide, open spaces for children to run free, countless interesting sights of nature, and over 150 years of history in a beautiful green oasis that has been recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Now, Armour Publishing, publisher of the Timmy and Tammy series, wants you to experience the same excitement Timmy and Timmy felt at Singapore Botanic Gardens with the upcoming event, Learning Journeys – Timmy & Tammy Family Nature Walk at Singapore Botanic Gardens.

The walk will take participants through the Garden’s Tanglin Core. Aimed at inspiring family learning and bonding, children and adults alike will have fun making interesting discoveries through a guided tour, games, and storytelling.

“We hope that the children will be more environmentally conscious and through this walk, children and parents can bond with each other,” said Renee Yang, Events & Marketing Executive at Armour Publishing.

Here are some highlights you can look forward to:

Eye-opening Discoveries and Fascinating Experiences

Did you know that the tree featured on the back of the current five-dollar note is a tembusu tree located in the Singapore Botanic Gardens? This iconic tree is more than 200 years old, and is one of the heritage trees of Singapore.

Five Dollar Note

Some of us might have sat on its long, low branch to have our pictures taken. You can’t do that now – it has been fenced up since December 2013 – but this tree certainly brings memories and is worth sharing with the next generation.

Learn more about the tembusu and other heritage trees through the Timmy & Tammy Family Nature Walk at Singapore Botanic Gardens.

Other interesting sights along the trail include the fascinating curtain of roots (go ahead, walk through the “curtain” and feel the gentle brush of the aerial roots against your skin), the secret “palm cave”, and the largest seed in the world.

A Real-life Experience of Timmy & Tammy’s Adventure

Swan Lake - Timmy & Tammy-inspired Walk

Fans of the Timmy & Tammy series will enjoy the storytelling from the book Timmy & Tammy At the Botanic Gardens around iconic locations in the Gardens. Over at Swan Lake, try to spot the swans, ducks, and turtles featured in the book! Perhaps, you can even purchase food capsules from the vending station and feed the animals like Timmy and Tammy did!

Scavenger Hunt and Other Activities

What better way to bring nature lessons to life than through games? Children will have fun learning about and identifying the animals indigenous to the Gardens through a scavenger hunt. They will also be encouraged to record their observations through drawings of the beautiful surrounds.
