Also known as SWF For Families, SWF³ caters to children, parents, and young adults, and for the first time, will also be expanded to children as young as two. With 66 programmes this year, SWF³ will include a wide range of activities and topics, such as music, storytelling, cooking, different forms of play and reading.

The Arts House – Living Room
Jacqueline Harvey, the author of the bestselling Alice-Miranda and Clementine Rose series, will teach children on how to create their own remarkable and resourceful characters in this workshop.

Write Your Own Pirate Stories with Gareth P Jones
Saturday 5 November, 2 pm to 3.30 pm
Asian Civilisations Museum – Ngee Ann Auditorium
Let your imagination run wild with Gareth P Jones, the author behind the popular Adventures of Steampunk Pirates series, as he will rally his participants in writing and living their own pirate tales.

Spices Have Superpowers!
Saturday 12 Nov, 2.30pm to 3.30pm
Empress Lawn
Parents and children might want to have some fun together in this magical story-telling and hands-on spice blend creation workshop conducted by writer Namita Moolani Mehra and illustrator Heetal Dattani.

Lego Stop-Motion Filmmaking Playshop
Sunday 13 November, 2pm to 5pm
The Arts House – Living Room
Bring your favourite LEGO characters to life in this stop-motion animation ‘playshop’ by Paperplane, and learn how to create a one-minute animation film. This could be the start of your own version of The Lego Movie!

Other Free Events at SWF for Families (SWF3) 2016

First-ever Illustrators’ Battles Series
Children, young adults and parents will be wowed by the Festival’s first-ever series of Illustrators’ Battles. Famous local and international names like Gemma Correll, Stephanie Wong, Mark Pett and Darel Seow, will battle with paper and pencil, and audiences will even get to suggest challenges.


Storytelling Sessions
– Tiger, Hornbill and Penguin Have Tea at Raffles (Storytelling)
Fleur Vella-Chang will engage children in an interactive session with some fun hands-on crafts activity.

New Delhi-born author, Bhakti Mathur, will enchant audiences with fascinating stories from Indian mythology.

– Craft time with Dottieshop: The Very Hungry Caterpillar
Get crafty in between sessions with mummy blogger and crafter, Dottieshop and bring some of your favourite books to life!
