Discover Maritime Singapore, journey in Singapore’s development as a major port, enter the fascinating world of port operations, be a ship captain for a day and learn what the sea brings us every day at the Singapore Maritime Gallery.
At the Singapore Maritime Gallery, there are more than 100 scenarios you can try. One highlight is the Ship Bridge Simulator where you and your kids can sit in a realistic mockup of a ship bridge (the room where the vessel is commanded) and steer seven different types of ships in various weather conditions.
There are 10 zones in all at the 1,000 sq m gallery, featuring different areas of the maritime industry. In the zone showcasing Singapore as a major hub port, you can walk through an actual 20-foot cargo container and see a large ship model known as the “big ship”. Through several interactive videos, you can gain various aspects of the usually restricted port operations areas, from container handling to lighthouses.
In all, there are more than 30 ship and rig models on display in the gallery, including the first container ship to arrive in Singapore in 1972 and cruise ship SuperStar Virgo. Keep the fun going for your little ones at the specially-designed ‘Fun at Sea!’ children’s corner. Relax with a cuppa, pick up souvenirs, and enjoy the panoramic view from the playground on the roof terrace.
