The Singapore Heritage Festival (SHF) 2019 will be a special Singapore Bicentennial edition, with themes and programmes that will explore and commemorate this important juncture in our history. This year, the festival will take place over four weekends with events and programmes centred around precincts such as Kampong Gelam and Bedok. Explore the nooks and crannies of these spaces, and uncover their lesser-known stories, along with the fascinating people behind them!

HELLO, SHF!
15 – 17 March 2019
This year, experience the festival that’s been 200 years in the making! This special Singapore Bicentennial edition of SHF will unearth gems of history and the lesser-known stories of your neighbourhood. Find Your Place in History, with light projections on historic spaces that tell of hopes and dreams, fear and sorrow; unleash your inner baba and nyonya at the new Armenian Street Party; and immerse in the fascinating cultures of various Malay communities at Malay Heritage Centre.

HELLO, Bedok!
22 – 24 March 2019
Bedok, oh Bedok! Those who live there boast of it, and those who don’t flock there for the
food! It’s a bustling new town today, but it used to be dotted with plantations and fishing
villages, with raucous sea regattas featuring koleks (Malay for small wooden boat) and
seafront mansions that dotted the shoreline of Singapore’s east coast. Discover how Bedok
moved “from changkol to calipers” with guided tours, photo exhibits and our very first theatre show about our beloved hawker culture.

HELLO, Telok Blangah!
29 – 31 March 2019
We’re not exactly sure how Telok Blangah got its name. “Telok” means bay in Malay, while
“blangah” could mean cooking pot, and some say the Keppel Harbour area is shaped like a
cooking pot. What we ARE sure of is that our array programmes will excite and inspire! An
evening of musical performances, sumptuous food and the Legends of Telok Blangah await,
to tell the story of how a small fishing village became one of the busiest ports in the world.

HELLO, Kranji!
6 – 7 April 2019
Farms aren’t something you usually associate with Singapore, but when you do, you think
of Kranji! On SHF 2019’s closing weekend, experience Singapore’s own version of rural
bliss with Kranji’s rich natural heritage, and its farming community. Get behind-the-scenes
of farms and businesses in the Kranji countryside to understand more about this tranquil
district.
