SATRARANGA is a group of performing artists and monks from the island of Majuli who have dedicated their lives to the promotion and propagation of the art and culture of sattriya. The performances are choreographed and led by internationally acclaimed sattriya exponent Dr Bhabananda Barbayan.
Sattriya is a living heritage, one of the eight classical dances of India that combines aesthetic and religion through balladry, dance and drama. The tradition traces its roots to the Vaishnavite monastic orders of Assam, attributed to the 15th century bhakti movement by scholar and saint, Srimanta Sankardev.
