Indoor Rock Climbing Adventure in Johor Bahru
Situated about 15 km or a 30-minute drive from the causeway, Rocky Basecamp is part of the bustling Tebrau area where Singaporeans often head to shop for daily essentials and enjoy delicious food.

Once inside, you will be greeted by 10 themed climbing routes featuring creative designs such as outer space, a library, and a vertical cavern. For more serious climbers, there are also regular high walls that scales up to 15 metres.

Most of the walls here use an auto-belay system, which means you do not need a partner or special certification to climb. Just buckle up, and you are good to go!

The staff provides a 15-minute safety briefing and guidance to ensure you know how to use the system safely – this is one feature that prompted me to recommend this space for families with young children!

Do not worry if you or your kids are new to climbing. The routes come in various heights to suit all comfort levels, and the auto-belay system ensures that everyone climbs safely.
The gym is open to anyone aged 4 and above, making it a great activity for families. While the baby gym area is currently closed for maintenance, there are plenty of spacious areas for younger children to roam around and for parents to relax while watching their kids climb.
Our Experience at Rocky Basecamp, AEON Mall Tebrau City

My children, aged 7 and 9, love coming here. They enjoy the challenge of scaling the walls, stretching their muscles, and getting a good workout while having fun.
When we arrived at Rocky Basecamp, the 15-meter regular high walls instantly caught my children’s attention and that soon became their favourite station. The height was both intimidating and thrilling, and they were eager to take on the challenge. They climbed with a mix of friendly competition and genuine teamwork, calling out tips and encouragement to one another.
One moment that stayed with me was when my son got stuck on a lower section — my older daughter, already ahead, patiently coached him from above until he reached her. The climb was rewarding, but the ride down via the auto-belay system was just as exciting. For the kids, “zooming” to the ground felt like getting a free pass to fly.

Younger children will especially enjoy the themed walls on Level 2, with 10 colourful designs and approachable heights. These walls with themes such as outer space, a library and a vertical cavern make it easy for beginners to experience small but meaningful wins, building confidence and resilience with every climb.
My son, initially hesitant about the tall walls, found his footing here — literally and figuratively. Those early successes gave him the courage to try more challenging climbs later.
As a parent, I also appreciated the wide, cushioned play space where the kids could run safely between climbs, and the attentive coaches who were always nearby to check on participants and offer guidance. It allowed me to relax and simply enjoy watching my children explore their limits in a safe, supportive environment.
Rocky Basecamp wasn’t just a climbing session for us — it became a day of laughter, courage, and shared victories we’ll remember for a long time.
After climbing, we usually head to the revamped Tebrau City Food Hall on the ground floor. It is bright, spacious, and offers a wide array of international cuisines – perfect for refuelling after an active day. We also like popping into Tsutaya Bookstore to browse books before heading home.
