1023’s members are born-and-bred Singaporeans who often draw inspiration from the songs they grew up with—be it the loud pop anthems blaring from heartland stores, tunes grandma used to hum, or community songs they sang during school assemblies.
To date, 1023 has reinterpreted familiar folk songs, iconic dialect numbers, as well as radio-friendly pop hits. The group most recently released a video with their take on Singapore Tamil songs, Munnaeru Vaalibaa and Singai Naadu, which features the beautiful Singapore cityscape and its iconic neighbourhoods. This medley also showcases konnakkol, the carnatic performance art of spoken percussion.
