
The festivities for Pongal 2019 in Singapore, traditionally celebrated to give thanks for an abundant harvest, are underway in Little India. If you are planning to visit Little India to experience the Pongal 2019 festivities, here are some events and activities you can look forward to.
Pongal 2019 in Singapore
Pongal Heritage Experience
Located along Hastings Road for Pongal 2019, take part in various interactive activities at the Pongal Heritage Experience booths.
At the Pongal Heritage Experience booths, you can try to “milk a cow” and learn more about the cultural significance of the Pongal festival to farmers.

Visitors can also find out more about the different stages of how rice is grown and take pictures with a traditional Indian hut that has been decorated for the Pongal Festival.

Animal Farm
Next to the Pongal Heritage Experience booths is the Animal Farm. The cows, bulls and goats here are on display till 19 January 2019. The cattle have been decorated for the occasion and are honoured during the Pongal Festival.
Pongal Festival Village
Along Campbell Lane, you will find the Pongal 2019 Festival Village. On sale are produce such as sugar cane and ginger plants. There are also specially decorated pots which are used for the cooking of the Pongal dish.
The Pongal Festival Village is open daily till 21 January 2019.
Stage Performances at Campbell Lane
Join in the festivities and enjoy the entertainment at the event tent along Campbell Lane. There will be folk music and performances every evening, from 6.30 pm to 10 pm, all the way till 18 January 2019.
Indian Heritage Centre Open House
Over the weekend, on 19 and 20 January 2019, pay a visit to the Indian Heritage Centre at Campbell Lane to participate in activities being held in celebration of Pongal 2019. These include crafts, food tasting and traditional games.
Other activities being held in conjunction with the Harvest Festival include a Little Indian Heritage Trail, Food Trail, Heritage Playstreet and Karagam Workshop.
