One of highlights of the display this year for SG60 is an orchid interpretation of Gardens by the Bay’s Supertrees, a sight that is immediately associated with Singapore’s skyline.

There are a total of three orchid-decorated Supertrees within the Flower Dome. The tallest of these stands 6.5 metres tall and features over 1,800 orchids.

You can even step inside the orchid Supertree and find yourself surrounded by beautiful orchids.

While wandering around the Flower Dome, also keep a look out for orchids such as the national flower Papilionanthe (formerly Vanda) Miss Joaquim ‘Agnes’. The flower is recorded as Singapore’s first orchid hybrid and the world’s first Vanda hybrid. It was declared Singapore’s national flower in 1981 for its resilience and year-round blooming habit.

Vanda KK Women’s and Children's Hospital

There are also orchids that have been named to honour groups of people such as the Vanda KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital whose hundreds of freckles represent the KKH community of staff, volunteers, partners, and patients, and was created in honour of the hospital’s centenary.

Another orchid is the Dendrobium Incredible NUHS Nurses, named in honour of the nurses of the National University Health System for their dedication during the COVID-19 pandemic.

An Ode to Peranakan Culture

Orchid Extravaganza 2025 is also very much a floral tribute to Peranakan culture.

Pintu Pagar display

Just behind the floral arch is a Pintu Pagar display – the set of doors placed just behind the main front doors of Peranakan Houses. These are traditionally craved from teak and are richly decorated with motifs such as lions, phoenixes, peonies and vases.

Down at the Flower Field, you can also peer into a Peranakan kitchen. This display celebrates the spices and flavours that would be used in traditional Peranakan cooking.

There are also displays of richly decorated Peranakan tableware.
