Step into a world of magic and theatrical storytelling, as Now You See Me Live unfolds on the stage before your eyes. From 20 February to 8 March 2026, Now You See Me Live takes the stage at the Sands Theatre, Marina Bay Sands with magic spun by four “Horsemen”.
Inspired by the Now You See Me film franchise, the live production shares the magic element, and even breaks pass the limitations of the screen, by bringing magical moments before live audiences. Families with young children would be enchanted by the live interactions with the magicians.
Now You See Me Live Show
When I knew of the live production making its debut in Singapore, I intentionally did not read up the synopsis or try to look up for online reviews before the show. The spellbinding part of a magic show is that you never know what to expect, right?
Fans of the movie franchise might be disappointed to know that this was not a traditional theatre adaptation of the film per se, but would also be fascinated to realise that it challenged them to step into the world of magic altogether – what if you are not just an audience watching passively in the seats? What if you could become a magician, or maybe, even a Horseman?
Spoiler Alert: Magical Encounters for Families
As someone who had only caught one film of the film franchise, I was admittedly not too sure what to expect at the show.
When the first act started, I was immediately struck with the theatrical and lively show, with elements that paid homage to the film franchise, such as the quick dress changing trick, and the escape on a helicopter that no one would have imagined to appear on that stage (those who had caught the third film in the franchise might recall a similar scene).
The little nuggets for film franchise fans was not lost on those who were not familiar with the films either.
My companion, who was not even aware of the film franchise, remarked that the dramatic start of the show built up lots of excitement towards how the show would unveil the tricks up its Horsemen’s sleeves.
Like the film franchise, four Horsemen were the protagonists who helmed the story arc. In this case, it was four magicians: Andrew Basso (Italy), Gabriella Lester (Canada), Matthew Pomeroy (United Kingdom) and Pablo Cánovas (Spain). The performers took turns to be spotlighted in tight succession keeping audiences on the edge of their chairs.
Audience participation was a prevailing theme across the performance. Young audiences were invited on stage for simple interactions, adults also got the chance to volunteer and take part in some of the tricks.
The show eventually came to a close on a sentimental note, with trips down memory lane by the Horsemen sharing about childhood encounters with magic and their route building the craft.
Overall, Now You See Me Live was a smoothly-executed production, that showed a lot of thought in the creative development and curation of the programme.
It was a relaxing show to enjoy as a family, and brought just a little surprise twist to some of the popular magic tricks that we might have often seen. For thrill seekers, the show might feel slow at times, but it would definitely resonate with magic hobbyists with the fun play on iconic tricks. The show also missed opportunities to leverage the film franchise’s popularity and a stronger tie in through tributes or thematic references to the film franchise.
That said, the production was careful to ensure that the magic did not just start at the beginning of the show, but right from the moment that guests stepped through the theatre’s doors. Photo spots at the holding area also rang with laughter during intermission, as guests gave their best poses for the cameras. After all, magic tricks were just illusions, and it was the real experience of a great time at the theatre with our loved ones that stay with us.
