Natya Yatra - Celebrating 100 Years of Indian Classical Dance in Singapore
Sharing is caring!

In commemoration of its 70th anniversary, the 17th edition of SIFAS Festival of Classical Indian Dance, Music and Arts 2019 celebrates the history, heritage and arts of Singapore with a platform to showcase international and local artists over 24 days from 22 Mar to 14 Apr 2019.

As part of the festival, SIFAS is proud to present an original production, Natya Yatra, which pays tribute to a century of classical Indian dance in Singapore. This theatrical dance production brings together four major Indian dance schools and an established troupe, each with its own rich and vibrant history: SIFAS (1949), Bhaskar’s Arts (1952), Apsaras Arts (1977), Temple of Fine Arts (1981) and Usha Rani Maniam Dance School (1975).

Presented from the spectator’s perspective, the show illustrates the beginnings, evolution and future prospects of classical Indian dance through five acts that showcase the various Indian dance genres, using anecdotal narratives; lighting design and animation; archival images of historic moments, places and people; and a live orchestra performing iconic music combined with original compositions—all of which embody SIFAS’s main philosophy of art as a reflection of civilisation.

Ticket prices: $30, $40

Admission for ages 5 and above.
