If you are around Bukit Merah Central and get a craving for chai tow kway, make your way over to the food centre and satisfy your craving with a plate from the Lim Kee Fried Carrot Cake stall.
Lim Kee Fried Carrot Cake is located at one of the corner stalls at the hawker centre. The stall has quite a number of years of history.
Its business first started out as a pushcart back in 1955 – so the owners definitely know a thing or two about frying up a good plate of carrot cake.

Lim Kee Fried Carrot Cake: Chai Tow Kway at Bukit Merah
The stall sells both white fried carrot cake or they can fry up a plate of black carrot cake.
It is $3.50 for a small plate and $4.50 for a large plate.
When we visited, we decided to order a plate of black carrot cake.
The freshly fried plate of carrot cake looked very appetising. The dish was not too dry and, in fact, it was slightly moist from the dark sauce. Carrot cake bits are nicely chopped up into bite-sized pieces and soft. The carrot cake pieces were also nicely seasoned.
Lim Kee Fried Carrot Cake Review
Typically, we prefer the white version of fried carrot cake but we found that the black version from Lim Kee Carrot Cake was quite nice. There wasn’t too much black sauce added into the dish and therefore was not overly sweet.
The chilli added in a nice touch of heat too.
What we noticed was that the style of carrot cake at Lim Kee Carrot Cake has the spring onions fried into the carrot cake. This integrates the taste of the spring onions with the rest of the fried dish. It also gets masked slightly by the sweet sauce.
On the whole, we liked the black fried carrot cake at Lim Kee because it was not overly sweet. People say that it has an old school taste – which is understandable since it has been around for 70 years. And as the old adage goes – if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
Lim Kee Fried Carrot Cake has a rating of 4.3 stars based on 20 Google reviews.
