The Labour Day Istana Open House 2018 takes place on 1 May from 8.30 am to 8 pm. Held to mark Labour Day, the open house is an opportunity for the public to pay a visit to the Istana grounds and the Istana main building.
For those who are planning to pay a visit, here are some highlights and useful things to know about the Labour Day Istana Open House 2018.
“Future City – Towards Sustainable Development Goals” Booth
The Lifelong Learning Council will be running “Future City – Towards Sustainable Development Goals” activity booths at the Labour Day Istana Open House 2018. At the booth, visitors will be able to participate in creative crafts such as sospeso art – a three-dimensional art technique, paper quilling and glass mosaic. This booth will be located close to the Centre Gate.
Reptile Display, Face Painting and Balloon Sculpting Booths
Visitors to the Istana grounds will also be able to look forward to a Wildlife Reserves Singapore booth which will showcase various reptiles, a SingTel Recreation Club balloon sculpting booth and a face painting booth by Comoprof Academy. Udders will also have an ice cream booth. In addition, China Construction Realty Co. will be running a carnival games booth at the Main Tent.

Guided Tours
There will be two types of guided tours held during the Labour Day 2018 Istana Open House.
The Nature Guided Tour will be conducted by the National Parks Board to showcase the flora and fauna found within the Istana grounds. The tours will take place between 10 am to 4 pm with registration at the ticketing booth near Ceremonial Plaza. Tour groups are limited to 12 to 15 person and will depart every hour.
The second guided tour will be conducted by the National Heritage Board and cover the Istana Main Building. On this tour, volunteers from the Preservation of Sites and Monuments division will take visitors around selected function rooms inside the main Istana building. The Istana Main Building Guided Tour is limited to 15 persons per group and will depart every 20 minutes between 9 am and 3 pm. The meeting point for the tour is at the ticketing booth near Ceremonial Plaza.

Performances
Various performances will be held throughout the day around the Istana. Performing groups includes the Handbell Ensemble from Paya Lebar Methodist Primary School (10 am, Ceremonial Plaza Tent), Pasir Ris Secondary School Band (10 am, Main Tent), Youth bands with senior ukulele players from NTUC (11 am, Ceremonial Plaza Tent) and the River Valley High Band (2 pm, Main Tent).
Entry to the Istana grounds is free for Singaporeans and Singapore permanent residents. An entry fee of $2 per person applies to all other visitors.
