Thinking of where to bring your kids this June holidays? Check out Resort World Sentosa’s (RWS) first-ever marine-themed educational and creative fiesta for kids.

This holiday fiesta takes place at the Maritime Experiential Museum at RWS and is open from 27 May to 12 June 2016.

With a host of live performances, storytelling activities, workshops and fun activities based on an exciting marine theme, this fair fuels your child’s imagination and creativity.

On the surface, it looks like a typical children’s book exhibition but there is more than meets the eye.

Storytelling Sessions and Workshops

Kids can attend drawing and craft workshops conducted by local illustrators or sit in and listen to stories told by the authors themselves.

On the first day of the fiesta, author David Seow and illustrator Soefara Jafney (Return To The S.E.A. Aquarium), and actor-turned-illustrator Edmund Chen (My Little Red Dot) made special appearances.

Get to meet your favourite authors and illustrators in person, including Lesley-Anne and Monica Lim, the mother-daughter duo who are authors of the Danger Dan series and Stephanie Wong, the illustrator of The Diary of Amos Lee.

The storytelling sessions and activities vary daily so do check the RWS website for more information.

Interact with Marine Animals

Within the same room, visitors can have up-close encounters with marine life such as chocolate chip starfish, sea cucumbers, horseshoe crabs and shark eggs in a touch pool.

Another marine display that attracts many “oohs” and “ahs” is the school of ‘Nemo’ clown fishes hovering around sea anemones.

Daily Stage Activities

Fin-tastic Fishy Friends engaged the kids with their upbeat song and dance routine and dispensed wisdom and advice on how to take care of marine life from the Deep Sea Oracle.

Get your cameras ready! Throughout the fiesta, there are meet-and-greet sessions with mascots such as Ang Ku Kueh Girl, Clifford The Big Red Dog, Geronimo Stilton, Thea Stilton and Singa The Lion and many more.

Learn more about the life cycle and food chain of marine life creatures bred at the S.E.A. Aquarium such as jelly fishes and sharks. Kids get to colour different marine animals and stick them on the display board for an interactive experience.

Book Exhibition

In line with the educational theme of the fiesta, which is to promote the love for reading among children, there are tons of children’s books on sale from at least 20 publishers.

The best part is there is a 15% discount for every book!

On display is a humongous shelf of more than 10,000 donated books. Doing their part for charity, the RWS and People’s Association organised a book donation drive to collect books from members of public earlier this year. All books will be distributed to children from low income families across Singapore.

With an entrance fee of just $3 per child (inclusive of a $25 goodie bag) and $6 per adult (inclusive of $5 voucher which can be used to offset the price of books), you’re in for a fun-filled treat at Imagine|Native fest.
