Celebrating Hari Raya: Stories from the Community

This exhibition highlights the key features of the Hari Raya festival as well as personal stories from the community. Through these personal stories, shared by individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds, Celebrating Hari Raya: Stories from the Community tells us about the celebration and what it means to those who celebrate it.
Fiesta Hari Raya Open House 2019
21 – 23 June 2019
In celebration of Hari Raya, the Malay Heritage Centre opens its doors to the public for a weekend of festivities filled with various family programmes and entertainment. From craft activities to Heritage hunts and live performances, visitors also get to enjoy free movie screenings as they chill and ‘lepak’ on the Istana grounds during the weekend!

Singapura Tales: A Damar Kurung Lantern Light-up
21 June – 28 July 2019
This outdoor light installation is inspired by the various myths and legends related to the history of Singapura. Drawing from the concept of the damar kurung, a traditional craft with origins from Gresik, East Java, Indonesia, the illustrations of the lanterns depicts Singapura Tales such as Radin Mas, Singapura Dilanggar Todak, Kusu Island, Badang and Sang Nila Utama.

Graced by Mr Zaqy Mohamad, Gambus Di Fiesta marks the opening of the weekend Hari Raya celebration at the Malay Heritage Centre (MHC). Presenting an ensemble of oud/gambus players, audience will get to experience renditions of evergreen Hari Raya melodies played entirely on oud/gambus!

Venture around Kampong Gelam with yourwe’re having 100 po shopping list as you prepare for your Hajj journey on steamships. Discover more stories about the Hajj and the significance of this area as a port town through this fun family activity!
+ Suitable for kids age 6 – 12 years old.
+ All participants must be accompanied by at least one (1) parent/guardian.

Seniman Bujang Lapok is a comedy classic by the late Allahyarham Tan Sri P.Ramlee. The story follows the midasventures of the 3 “bujang lapok” – Ramli, Aziz and Sudin who auditioned at the famous Jalan Ampas film studio. Despite their lack of experience, the three were eventually employed as actors under the Malay Film Productions. Follow their stories and enjoy this classic film together with your family and friends!
