The Club Med Snow Academy

Trifecta 03

As Club Med is an all-inclusive resort that provides immersive holiday experiences for their guests, this is no different. The Club Med Snow Academy by Trifecta provides ski and snowboarding programs that sees learners pick up skills on how to ski and snowboard in preparation for winter holidays at a Club Med destination.

Once learners enrol into the academy, they will be able to complete sessions that match the levels at Club Med’s ski and snowboarding locations. Once completed, they will receive a certificate endorsed by Club Med and Trifecta, allowing them to hit the slopes confidently during their holiday trip. The program will enable learners to maximise their time by learning ahead so that they can immerse themselves in riding off the slopes during their holiday.

Skiing at The Club Med Snow Academy, Trifecta

Wondering what a noob’s experience would be like at The Club Med Snow Academy? My 11 year old and I are first-time skiers. Not including an unpleasant ski experience I had as a child, the winter sport was pretty new to me. We donned our ski boots after putting on protective gear for the knees, elbows and wrists, then wore our helmets and proceeded to the ski skope.

The adults and children had different areas to practise on. For the adults, we had metal beams to hold on to while learning to ski. I was a little anxious given my one and only barrier-crashing ski experience. The instructor at Trifecta was clear, patient and taught us how to put on the skis, take them off and how to stand.

One by one we proceeded to the slope and began our practise when the floor beneath us would move simulating the motion on the snowy slopes. In the refreshingly cool air and moist carpeted slopes, this was probably the safest ski experience ever.

We learnt how to move the skis in a v shape, slow down by spreading our feet wider and also going from left to right and vice versa. There were moments I was a tad slower than the magical travellator, the instructor would adjust the speed and stop the motion so we could pace ourselves. After 15 minutes, my taster session was enough to give me a light sweat. I emerged a little more confident to ski.

For my 11 year old, he joined the other children on the child-friendly slope. There were no bars but a slope with a beaded surface they could practise on. Perhaps it was the lower CG, the children seemed to manage fine without having to hold on to metal beams.

With constant encouragement from the instructors, my son went  down the slope then slowed to a stop in front of the inflated barrier.

He seemed to breeze through it and thoroughly enjoyed his first ski experience, all 30 minutes of it. Perhaps we could plan on a ski holiday in the near future?

Trying Out The Snowboarding Simulator At Trifecta

Trying Out The Snowboarding Simulator At Trifecta

As I had experienced snowboarding in the mountains of Korea, I decided to check out the snowboarding trial to see if it is as close as it gets to the real deal.

We collected our gear which included protective knee, hand and elbow guards, making it as safe as it can get. The trainer provided a safety briefing before starting to show us how the simulator works.

Thereafter, we took turns to go up the slope to try out the simulator.

I would say that compared to actual snowboarding on the mountains, it is a very no-frills experience that has a rather low learning curve because of its controlled environment.

To get up on the slope, one just has to sit and wait for the slope to roll backwards.

Even if you do not feel confident about balancing, there are metal poles to hold onto as a safety precaution as you slowly grow used to manoeuvring the snowboard.

The trainers are extremely patient and helpful, constantly looking out and providing tips on how to improve our technique while snowboarding.

Even though I was on the simulator for only 15 minutes, I felt that I could snowboard without holding onto the bars for about 5 seconds, and even confidently move to the left and right of the slope without falling.

Learning to Surf at Trifecta

Trifecta 01 1

Another sport you can try is surfing at the Surf Arena. I was taken aback at how the waves were so strong at the wave pool. This was surely an activity not for the weak.

I was glad my 13 year old was up for the challenge! Swimwear is recommended for this activity. After donning a helmet, he was briefed by the instructors and then tried getting into the water to experience the force of the wave.

After which, my teen was guided to reach the metal beam for support, accompanied by the instructor’s support right next to him. After learning to stablise, he was then encouraged to let go of the beam.

The next step was learning to move to the left and right. At first, the instructor would guide him using the shoulders and hold him up. After some steadiness, he then tried on his own.

Balancing on the surf board was already a challenge, coupled with the constant shifts in the body and the rush of the waves, it was easy to fall and swallowing some water while learning seemed to be a usual affair. The surf instructors were always near to provide guidance and knew when to be a further distance away to encourage progress in learning. It was definitely a memorable experience for my teen who loved the thrill.
